Wigton Moor -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

09 May 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Lost: 5 - 2

Our last game of the season saw the Idle girls travel to Alwoodley for a winners takes second spot against Wigton Moor.

The game kicked off and both teams battled for the ball which was like a hot potato for the first five minutes. No chances were created for either side but Wigton did open the scoring when a ball over the Idle defence went straight to Georgia who usually is very safe on her handling but she dropped the ball at the feet of the Wigton centre forward who to her credit had followed the ball in and she tapped the ball over the line. Wigton 1 - 0.
Both teams tried to settle but the occasion made it difficult. Wigton looked more settled due to the gift of of the goal but Idle weren't to far off the pace. With Idle pushing Wigton clear the ball over the Idle defence in the scramble for the ball Roisin was unlucky to trip the Wigton player in the area and a penalty was awarded. The Wigton player made no mistake. Wigton 2 - 0.
Idle now had a mountain to climb, they got stuck in and got back into the game when Zoe was tripped in the Wigton area and a penalty was awarded. Danny finished well from the spot to get Idle back into the game.
Half time Wigton 2 - 1 Idle.

The second half saw Wigton play some good football out wide and made the Idle girls at times look second best. All of Idles players needed to believe they could get back into the game but some of the girls just weren't giving there all. Wigton scored again this time from a corner which was headed in. Wigton 3 - 1.
I was about to push more players forward but Sophie chanced a ball over the Wigton defence, she was never favourite but her desire got her the goal she deserved. Wigton 3 - 2.
With gaps now appearing at the back for Idle Wigton once again made Idle pay, the ball found an unmarked Wigton player in the area and she shot into the Idle net. Wigton 4 - 2.
This now put Idles heads down and the game was gone. With five minutes left the Wigton centre forward scored with a great left foot strike into the top corner to finish the scoring.
Final score Wigton 5 - 2 Idle Juniors.

First of all a big congratulations to Howard and the Wigton girls for finishing second (first) in this very competitive league.
You deserved it today and were worthy winners.

Back to Idle, you didn't do yourselves justice today and although Wigton played well I know that if you applied yourselves more they would have had to work harder for the ball and the chances they created wouldn't have materialised.

Back to the positives, finishing third still is a massive achievement, that with winning the Tesco County Cup. I'm very proud of you all for the way you've kept going right to the end. A difficult run in but no one complained you just got on with it.
Thanks to all parents who without you giving lift and letting me get on with it in my way which sometimes you may not agree with but we still get there in the end.

Oncw again thank you and hopefully see you all next season where we can give it another go in what looks to be a more competitive league with new teams coming in.

Huddersfield Ladies -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

06 May 2010
Kick-off 18:30

Won: nil - 3

Huddersfield away on a Thursday evening doesn't sound to bad for a night game but with the traffic from the M606 through to Cooper Bridge it seemed like the journey was never going to end.

All the players arrived with 15 minutes to spare so the game could get going on time and a full 35 minutes half.

The game kicked off and Idle were looking tired already. Huddersfield can and do possess the skills to beat most teams and the way the game started it looked like it was going to be a long evening for the Idle girls.
Huddersfield were first to the ball and played some nice football but in areas which were never going to hurt Idle. After ten minutes Idle started to wake up and the first real chances of the game fell there way.
Pressure was now being put on the Huddersfield back line and a string of corners were Idles reward.
From the right corner Danny swung a peach of a cross over, the ball was in the air for a long time and with several players trying to get the ball, it was Zoe who forced the ball over the line. I didn't see which part of her body the ball actrually came off but lets just say she made a BOOB of it!. 0 - 1 Idle.
This settled Idle and they now had the upper hand and took control.
Idles next goal came from the left, some nice work down the left from Macca saw her pass find Rosie who took aim and scored.
0 - 2 Idle.
More chances came but Idle were unable to increase their lead.
At the other end a long range effort was saved well by Georgia to keep the score 0 - 2 at half time.

The second half once again Idle started slow. the home team gained confidence and played some excellent football but Idles defence stood strong and managed to get the ball away.
Azaria and Roisin were doing a good job keeping Huddersfields fast forward in line.
Gradually Idle once again managed to get back into the game and with ten minutes to go Sophie found room in the box to fire home wiith her left foot. 0 - 3 Idle.
The last chance of the game fell to Huddersfield but once again Georgia saved well.
Final Score Huddersfield 0 - 3 Idle.

Thanks to Ian and the Huddersfield girls for a good game. I would have thought that if you could have kept up that level of performance you would have been challenging for second place.

One more game to go.
Wigton away on Sunday 10.30am kick off. A win puts us second, a draw or win for Wigton puts them second so everything to play for.
In my opinion whoever finishes second can count themselves champions of the west riding area.
No disrespect to Cestria who have won the league at a canter and are probably the best team in the country at u14 level. They have made all the teams in this division look up to them as an example to were most teams want to be.

U14 Girls -Vs- York Cubs - Home

29 Apr 2010
Kick-off 19:00

Won: 5 - 1

Our first night game of the season sees us entertain York Cubs down at Apperley Bridge.
Due to distance York had to travel a 6.30pm kick soon turned into a 7,00pm kick off.

Earlier in the season we played York who then had ten players, this time it was our turn to field ten with three girls away on school trips.

Straight from the kick off Idle played some very encouranging football, knowing they had a player light they tried to keep the ball and use the big pitch. Idle came close to scoring on a couple of times and knew that they had to keep the pressure on the York back four.
This pressure paid off with a sliced clearance from a York defender, the ball found its way to Rosie M who beat her marker and shot across the keeper to score. Idle 1 - 0.
This seemed to encourage the Idle girls even more and the football they played was probably the best they've played this season.
Good work in defence by Lauren and Roisin, a quick ball out to Amelia whose long ball over the York defence was chased down by Sophie who took control of the ball and fired home. Idle 2 - 0.
The football kept on coming and this time Danny found Sophie down the right, her cross was met by Zoe who cut across the front of her marker to score. Idle 3 - 0.
York started to play some good football of their own but resilute defending from Azaria and great positioning and handling by Georgia in goal kept them at bay. Half time Idle 3 - 0 York.

The second half started the same as the first with Idle taking control of the football. Lauren pushed forward when possible to give our midfielders the break they needed. Roisin and Azaria were now in control at the heart of Idles defence which gave Amelia the chance to push on from right back. Another quick passing move saw the ball find its way to Rosie whose shot from the edge of the box was too good for the York keeper to keep out. Idle 4 - 0.
With ten minutes left York pushed Idle back and a mix up in defence saw a York attacker with a open goal which she didn't miss. 4 - 1.
With little time left Rosie once again got the ball out of her feet and shot into the York goal. Idle 5 - 1.
Final score Idle 5 - 1 York.

Thanks to York for coming over and giving the girls a good work out.

A great performance tonight girls, you played well today against a good York team. With ten girls you still beleived you could get a result. You all played some good football but you all still need to talk to each other more. Football becomes easier the more information you pass onto each other.

Thanks to all the parents who stood in the rain to watch but I'm sure you were entertained.

Oakworth Juniors -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

25 Apr 2010
Kick-off 11:00

Won: nil - 4

After a long hard week of playing three games in 4 days, Idle girls travelled to Oakworth Juniors.
Thanks must go to Steve the Oakworth manager for arranging the game from Saturday to Sunday so we could get the game into our busy run in.

From the off both side found it hard to get any space because of the small pitch, this in fact was a godsend to the Idle girls who were feeling the strain of the last two games. Idle settled well and created some openings but on each time the Oakworth keeper was quick off her line. Half way through the half Idle got the goal they deserved, Danny got the out of her feet and hit an 18 yarder into the top corner. 0 - 1 Idle.
Amelia nearly made it two with a good effort which saw the ball bounce off the post into the keepers arms.
Half time Oakworth 0 - 2 Idle.

The second half saw Idle control the game better and create better chances. With some players playing out of position it was good to see them adapt to their new roles well.
Azaria pushed on down the right, won the ball well and cut into the area onto her left, her shot across the keeper found the corner.
0 - 2 Idle.
Idle were now cruising but tired legs were showing, this didn't seem to stop the girls from playing some good football though.
From a corner on the right by Danny, Lauren met the ball by the penalty spot and headed the ball into the top corner, a brilliant header from an excellent corner. 0 - 3 Idle.
With little time left Amelia got the chance to hit a shot from distance and she made no mistake to make it four.
Final score Oakworth Juniors 0 - 4 Idle Juniors.

Thanks once again to Steve for helping us with the fixture and good luck in the Shield Final.
Thanls also to Paul, Roisin's dad for refereeing today at short notice.

Well done girls, a difficult four days but you came through it well.
See you all Thursday at home against York.

Bradford City -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

22 Apr 2010
Kick-off 18:30

Draw: 2 - 2

Today we travelled the short distance to Rawdon Meadows to play our local rivals Bradford City.

Bradford have improved gradually through the season and are playing some great football at the moment so we had to be at the top of our game to get all three points today.

The game kicked off with Idle playing into a very strong sun which was going to make it very hard for our defenders and goalkeeper to see the ball.
Idle started the better and after five minutes chances were being created. Sophie, Zoe and Rosie M all going close in the early stages with the best chance falling to Rosie M which brought a great save out of the Bradford keeper.
At the other end Bradfords strength is there attack and when possible they get the ball up front quickly. It was from a quick break that caught the Idle girls napping and a loose ball fell to a Bradford girl who, with the sun behind her shot and scored. The shot was a good effort but the sun made it impossible for Georgia to see the ball.
Bradford 1 - 0.
Idle didn't let this get them down and continued to dominate the game, Danny and Rosie in midfield were dominating things and it looked only a matter time before Idle would get the goal they deserved but again it was Bradford a pinched a second. Poor play from our own free kick gave the Bradford girls the ball in front of our goal and a good finish made it two. Bradford 2 - 0.
Even at this point the Idle girls didn't look too down. They knew the game was far from over and continued to dominate without getting that elusive goal they deserved.
Half time Bradford 2 - 0 Idle.

The girlss came off and I could see and hear from their reactions that they were fustrated by the score and one or two of the girls were starting to blame the defence for the scoreline. Just remember girls if we put our chances away like Bradford did then we would be in a comfortable position of maybe three or four goal to the good at half time. Pointing fingers and blaming others does no good for the team and nobody means to make mistakes, we are all capable of errors and in some positions this can be more costly to the team so encourage each other more and try to make up for things you know you can improve on.

The second half saw the game played mostly in the Bradford half. Idle passed and probed but with Abbie Thompson in excellent form at the heart of the Bradford defence it was going to be hard to break through. The Idle defence was a more solid unit in the second half and got to the ball much quicker than they did in the first half.
With ten minutes left and the game looking like it wasn't going to be Idles day a corner was swung over from the left, the ball bobbled and bounced and found its way to Amelia at the far post, with her back to goal she tried to turn but the Bradford defender had a hold of her and luckily the referee saw this and immediately gave a penalty.
What followed was a minor scuffle and the ref did an excellent job in defusing the situation.
From the resulting penalty Danny fired it home into the roof of the net. Bradford 2 - 1 Idle.

Idle now had something to build on and with three minutes left the ball was pushed through to Sophie who looked like she was heading down the right wing but she turned into the centre and ran at the two centre backs, this seemed to confuse them and in the mix up that followed the ball found its way to Rosie M who took a touch before firing home for a deserved equaliser.

Final score Bradford City 2 - 2 Idle Juniors.

All in all a tremendous game of football between two very good u14 girl teams. I'm sure both management teams will feel they should have got more than the draw but that's football. Well done to the Bradford girls and the backroom staff, you have the makings of a very good football team and you are now a force to be reckoned with.

Well girls, desire, passion and ability got you a point today. A great team performance but like I said earlier don't get on each others backs if the result doesn't run for you. You are stronger together and are a match for most teams. You played the better football today and were unlucky not to get all three points.
The girl of the game could have gone to a number of girls, Azaria, Rosie M, Rosie Sophie or Zoe and the rest but Danny was the one who got the nod from the Bradford management, well done Danny.

York Cubs -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

18 Apr 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Won: nil - 5

Today we travelled to York racecourse to play York Cubs.
With the horse track going around the playing fields the scenery was amazing.
The pitch was bone dry the sun was out a slight breeze made the conditions hard but both teams put on a good game of football.

This was the second encounter between the two teams and like last time York could only manage to get 10 players available.

Idle kicked off and passed the ball around well, the dry bumpy pitch was making it difficult for both teams to play any flowing football.
Ten minutes in and great play down Idles left by Rosie M saw her cross come cross deflect across the line. 0 - 1 Idle.
Ten minutes later and this time it was Amelias turn down the right to score, her cross come shot sailing into the top corner. 0 - 2 Idle.
Another ten minutes passed and this time Zoe got in the score sheet with a well taken goal after some good by Danny and Sophie.
Half time York 0 - 3 Idle.

The second half was a slower pace with York tiring due to a girl light.
Idle continued to put pressure on the York defence and with ten minutes left Sophie scored with a great strike into the keepers top left hand corner. 0 - 4 Idle.
With five minutes remaining Danny got lucky with a shot that the home keeper misjudged and the ball rolled into the net.
To be fair to Danny earlier efforts against the bar and a fine save by the York keeper, it was looking like she wasn't goingto score.
Final score York 0 - 5 Idle.

Thanks to York who even with 10 girls all game never gave in.

Well done girls agood performance today.

See you all Thursday when we play York again at home, 6.30 pm kick off.

Silsden Juniors -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

28 Mar 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Won: 1 - 3

The sun was shining and the pitch was in very good condition at County HQ,, it was just a pity the wind decided to get in on the act.
The Idle girls kicked off and soon got into the Silsden girls with some fine play. One minute in and Sophie had a chance to put Idle in front but hit her shot straight at the keeper.
Idle then switched off and let the Silsden left winger in to score with only 5 minutes gone. 0 - 1 Silsden.
Conceding early seemed to wake Idles defence up.
Ten minutes in and Idle had a grip in midfield and started to take control. Chances were being created and it was only a matter of time before Idle got a just reward. A long throw in on the right by Lauren was taken on by Sophie who shot across the Silsden keeper into the net. Idle 1 - 1 Silsden.
With the wind in Idles faces it was difficult for the Idle girls to get any long ball over the top so they switched to short passes and this paid off when good interchanging by Danny and Macca, a good cross and Sophie once again finished well with her second and Idles second. Idle 2 - 1.
More chances were to come Idles way but some good goalkeeping and last minute blocks meant the half finished Idle 2 - 1 Silsden.

The second half kicked off and with the wind on Idles backs the girls were soon pushing Silsden back. Once again Idle were finding it difficult to get any clean shots away. Silsden had camped out in front of there goal and were making it very hard to get through.
A bit more composure in front of goal and idle would have been two or three more goals to the good. Once again short sharp passing were the best way of getting through and with fifteen minutes to go Macca got the ball out wide left, she had been told at half time to be more greedy and go at her opponent and that's just what she did. Left, right and left again and a excellent finish into the corner.
Idle 3 - 1.
Silsden committed girls forward and got a good shot away but Georgia saved well.
Idle pushed on and were unlucky not to get more goals.
final score Idle 3 - 1 Silsden.

Thanks to the Silsden girls for a good game. We look forwards to seeing you next season in the u15's league.

Well done Idle Girls, u14 Girls County Cup WINNERS.
You all played well today and made amends for the poor showing against Batley in the semi. Thanks to all for supporting the girls today. Now lets get back to trying to get second spot in the league.

U14 Girls -Vs- Cestria Galaxy - Home

20 Mar 2010
Kick-off 11:00

Lost: nil - 4

Semi Final of the League Cup.

Idle welcomed Cestria to Apperley Bridge.

From the off the game was going to be a strongly contested affair.
Cestria are a very good hard working side who pass the ball well but Idle are no pushovers. The ball was being moved about quickly but no side really took hold.
Cestria got the breakthrough with a bit of luck. katie got caught in possession and the resulting loose ball was despatched into the net by Cestria impressive centre forward. 0 - 1 Cestria.
This was the only clear oppertunity of the first half with both teams working hard to close each other down.
Half time Idle 0 - 1 Cestria.

At half time we had a chance to assess our injuries. Rachel was ok but sore, Lauren was ok to carry on but our new worry was Georgia, a slight pull on her hamstring.

The second half saw Cestria take a bigger grip on the game. Idles injuries were showing with some girls were now having to play out of position.
Cestria got a second which killed off any hope of Idle getting back into the game. Georgia pulled off the save of the game, diving to her right and pushing the ball onto the post.
Cestria scored a futher two goals but by this time Idle were pushing forwards and left gaps agt the back.
Idle finished the game with Rachel off the field with a very sore left knee. A visit to the hospital will let us know how bad the injury is. Fingers crossed Rachel hope you get better soon.

Final score Idle 0 - 4 Cestria.

Congatulations to the Cestria Girls and good luck in the final.
Thanks to some of the Cestria parents for giving me a hand in putting the nets up before the game and thanks to some of the Idle parents for taking them down after.

Well done today girls a big effort today considering the circumstances.

County Cup Final next week, so everyone take it easy.

U14 Girls -Vs- Batley Blaze - Home

14 Mar 2010
Kick-off 14:00

Draw: 2 - 2

Right here we go.

County Cup semi final against Batley Blaze.
On paper the Idle girls should have breezed through to the final but this is football and we didn't expect Batley to be as good as they were.
From the kick off both teams were very nervous and it showed with some loose passing from both sides.
Idle got the early breakthrough when Amelia cut inside fron the right and with her LEFT foot hit the ball high towards goal. the ball found the net. Idle 1 - 0.
Rather than settle Idle it was the opposite with Batley pushing Idle back. A great cross from the right wing saw the ball put away by the Batley forward. 1 - 1.
Idle battled well but didn't get into there usual stride. Praise must go to Batley for pressing Idle every time they got the ball. They got the ball out wide when possible and caused Idles full backs problems all game.
Half time Idle 1 - 1 Batley.

The half time team talk was to state the obvious, did Idle want to win this game and if so why weren't we prepared to complete with a very good Batley side.
All the girls new that a bigger effort was needed if we were to overcome our opponents.
The second half kicked off and Idle showed a more determined approach, but it was Batley who struck first with yet another fine cross from wide which once again was met by the Batley forward who finished well. 1 - 2 Batley.
Idles response was good but not great and chances were few and far between for both teams.
Idles best play of the game saw Rachel put through on goal to be denied by the post. With time running out Sophie found space on the edge of the Batley area and shot true into the Batley goal. 2 - 2.
Idle were now looking for a winner but Batley stood firm.
Full time Idle 2 - 2 Batley.

Extra time was hard for both teams. The pitch was very big and both teams were feeling the heat. Once again both teams had chances to get the winner but penalties were coming.
After extra time Idle 2 - 2 Batley.

Both teams had put in a lot of effort into the game so it was unfair for such a good advert for girls football to be decided on penalties.
The penalty count stayed level at 7 - 7 all the way through to the keepers with both teams missing and scoring at vital times.
Georgia was very nervous when she was told that she was going to have to take a penalty, she stood tall and scored. Now all she had to do was saved the penalty from her counterpart the Batley keeper. Georgia produced a fine save pushing the ball onto the post to give Idle a place in the final.

Thanks to Sean and his team for a very hard game. Lady luck was shining on Idle today and on another day it would have most probably gone Batleys way.
Penalties were the last thing both teams wanted.

Thanks you to everyone who came to watch today , you certainly were entertained,

Girl of the game was Georgia for her heroics in the penalties shootout.

Well done girls, County Cup Final here we come.

U14 Girls -Vs- Cestria Galaxy - Home

06 Mar 2010
Kick-off 11:30

Lost: nil - 1

Today we welcome Cestria Galaxy to Apperley Bridge.

Cestria are currently one point away from winning the league and so far have a 100% record so today we were going to have to bring that little bit extra if we wanted to get something out of the game.
The pitch was a bit tacky but otherwise ok to play on.

From the kick off both teams got stuck in. Idles intentionswere to get close to the Cestria girls and make it difficult for them to get any momentum going. This was working well and Cestria were limited to long range shots. Georgia in goal was playing with confidence and her handling was brilliant all game.
Ten minutes before half time Cestria managed to scramble the ball home from a succession of corners. 0 - 1 Cestria.
Idle didn't let this get them down and pushed on.
Half time Idle 0 - 1 Cestria.

The second half was much of the same but Idles midfield were getting stuck in and had the beating of their counterparts. Idles best chance in the second half fell to Zoe who saw her effort saved well.
Final score Idle Juniors 0 - 1 Cestria Galaxy.

Well done to Cestria not only for winning the game but winning the league.
Congratulations to Lee and his girls a brilliant achievement.

Back to Idle.

Georgia: Safe hands and positioning were a joy to watch. You need to be more vocal in your commands but otherwise excellent today.
Ella: You are coming on leaps and bounds. The more game time you get the improvement is for all to see. Excellent today.
Vanessa: Yet another great game. You've now settled in at full back and are looking very assured. Excellent today.
Azaria: Idles little dynamo. Never giving in, always tigerish in your challanges. Another knock for your troubles but always gets on with it. Excellent today.
Lauren: Ever present at the back. Your tackles are strong and you have the ability to clear with either foot. heading the ball is no longer a problem. Very close to girl of the game today, excellent well done.
Rosie (Macca): Got run up and down Idle left early on but you didn't complain. Great to see you getting more involved in the middle. Not alot of chances to get beyond their fullback but also stopped the right midfield from opperating. excellent today.
Amelia: Made the right your own today. You don't get beaten that often these days due to you getting into position early. Excellent today.
Rosie (Captain) / Danny: Difficult today for you both due to your immediate opponent being a Scottish international. Not alot of chance for both of you to show what you can do but still kept you shape and stiffled the midfield brilliantly. Both excellent today.
Zoe: Took a little time to get angry but you got their. When you close the defence down you are a very difficult player to handle. Unlucky with your chance on another day it would have gone in. Excellent today.
Rachel: Great up front even better in midfield. The move suited you today and gave you the chance to get more involved. Very unluck not to get a freekick when you received a loose elbow for your troubles.
(not intentional I hope). Excellent today.
Katie: Came off the subs bench and made a telling contribution to the midfield. Just be more confident in your ability and we will see what you are more than capable of. Excellent today.
Sophie: You chased and chased today and never gave in. A tireless performance yet again. Excellent today and the girl of the match award, well done.

Another great team performance.
County cup next week and if we take this team spirit and performance with us we won't be far away from getting a just reward.
Well done girls.

Shelf Juniors -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

13 Feb 2010
Kick-off 12:00

Won: 2 - 8

Quarter Final of the County Cup away to Shelf Juniors.

Idle kicked off up a slopping pitch. The intention was to defend high and use our fast forward line.
It started to work well immediately and Shelf were struggling to match the Idle girls strength.
Five minutes gone and Idle got the breaktrough, good work down the right wing saw Amelia cut into the area and fire into the roof of the net. Shelf 0 - 1 Idle.
From the kick off Idle won the ball and pushed the Shelf defence back. On eight minutes Sophie fire home from a crowded area.
0 - 2 Idle.
This good start certainly made it easier for the girls to settle and get into a good rhythm. Thirteen minutes gone and Sophie again pounced on a defensive error and finshed well. 0 - 3 Idle.
Chances were coming very quickly, Rachel headed onto the crossbar from a excellent cross from girl of the game Lauren and Rosie side footed over the bar. It wasn't all one way traffic though and Shelf caught Idle napping on more than one occasion, good keeping from Georgia and last minute tackling from Vanessa, Lauren, Roisin and Ella were keeping Shelf out.
Twenty one minutes gone and Rosie scored, a scramble in the area saw the ball fall to Rosie who passed the ball into the net.
Half time Shelf 0 - 4 Idle.

With the slope in Idles favour the Idle started the second half very slowly and Shelf put the Idle girls under a bit of pressure. Georgia once again showing just how good a goalkeeper she is with a couple of fine saves. From the Shelf pressure Rachel gathered the ball just outside her own area and ran at the Shelf players, her pace saw her through on goal and with the keeper coming out she lifted the ball over her into the net. 0 - 5 Idle.
Once again Idle were pushed back and a mix up in the defence gave them a deserved goal. Shelf 1 - 5.
Idle woke up and started to get control again and this time it was Zoe turn to score, Katie beat her marker in the area but couldn't get her shot away but Zoe was at hand to finish. 1 - 6 Idle.
Shelf were now showing signs of tiredness, they usually play 9 aside and were finding it tough. They only had 11 players available from the start, so no subs.
Azaria was pushing forward from midfield and her determination to get the ball caused the Shelf defence to panic and Rachel pounce to score her second and Idle seventh. 1 - 7 Idle.
Macca was next to score, some good work on the wing, a strong run into box and a firm shot into the roof of the net. 1 - 8 Idle.
Shelf didn't give up and they finished the game scoring a deserved second from a good run and shot.
Final score Shelf 2 - 8 Idle.

Well done to Paul and the Shelf girls. I know on another day you would have been a lot harder to beat and not having any subs were a telling factor.

Back to the Idle girls, well done. Semi finals next.
Thanks to all the Mums and Dads for there support.

Huddersfield Town Ladies -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

06 Feb 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Won: nil - 7

Todays game was away to Huddoersfield Ladies.
The playing serface was boggy, the conditions were cold and foggy.
From the off the Idle girls got stuck in. Quick passing created the first chance on 2 minutes. A slide rule pass from Danny to Rachel cut the home defence open and Rachel rounded the keeper to score. 0 - 1 Idle.
Idle once again pushed forward. 8 minutes gone and good work this time by Amelia down the right, she crossed but the ball was half cleared to Sophie who controlled and shot into the top corner. 0 - 2 Idle.
Idle were now well in control. A solid back line. a hard working midfield and the forwards chasing every ball.
Huddersfield were finding it tough to get out of their half. Safe hands Georgia touched the ball twice all half which was probably a true reflection on Idle dominance. Just before the half time whistle Idle got a deserved third. This time good work down the left by Macca, a cut back to Rachel whose shot was pushed wide by the home keeper, Sophie followed up and hit the ball left footed into the net. Half time Huddersfield 0 - 3 Idle.

The second half saw Idle continue to dominate. Several changes were made and while the girls were adjusting to their new positions Huddersfield nearly got a goal back. The ball was going in but stopped in the mud and Lauren cleared the danger. Idles reply was shift and neat passing between Rosie and Macca saw Macca through on goal and another top corner finish. 0 - 4 Idle.
Not to be outdone Zoe got in on the scoring, Katie fought hard for possession down the right and passed inside to Azaria who found Rachel down the left, a quick pass inside to Zoe who finished well.
0 - 5 Idle.
With Idle in total control more changes were made. With Vanessa back on she passed to Rachel who scored. 0 - 6 Idle.
With 5 minutes left Idle finished the scoring with Zoe getting her second and Idle seventh. A solid 50/50 with the keeper saw Zoe tapping into the unguarded goal. Final score Huddersfield 0 - 7 Idle.

Thanks to Ian and the Huddersfield girls for a hard game.

Well done girls, another fine display.
County cup next week so keep it going.

U14 Girls -Vs- Wigton Moor United - Home

30 Jan 2010
Kick-off 11:30

Won: 2 - 1

Today we welcome Wigton Moor United.

The pitch was 50/50 but after consulting with the ref and Howard the Wigton manager it was decided to start the game. If the girls safety was in question then it was agreed that the game would have to be abandoned. The pitch held out and the game was on.

Idle have never beaten Wigton at 11 aside and never scored against them so it was going to a hard contest against a very good team.

From the kick off both sides didn't give much away, both defences were on top. An injury to Azaria after 4 minutes meant Ella slotting in at right back. With the battle going on in midfield it was going to take something different to break the deadlock. Wigton got the break, a shot/punt toward goal saw the ball bounce in off the crossbar. 0 - 1 Wigton.
In previous game against Wigton this would have meant heads down and lets feel sorry for ourselves but not today. Idle got back in and pushed Wigton back. Everyone was up for it and believed they could get something out of the game. Some great corners from Danny put the away defence under pressure but solid defending kept Idle out. With Azaria back on and marking the Wigton danger girl this meant a bit more freedom for Lauren to push into midfield and help the hard working quartet of Amelia, Rosie, Danny and Macca. Sophie and Rachel up front made the Wigton girls very nervy. Zoe moved from defence to attack and did the same. Half time Idle 0 - 1 Wigton.

Idles inspirational captain Rosie couldn't make the second half and an early injury to Vanessa meant Idle down to just one sub, Katie.
Idle pushed on and were getting the upperhand in midfield. A neat passing move saw the ball into Rachels feet, a quick turn and shot saw the ball just going over.
With Roisin now in charge at the back for Idle and Georgia back to her brillient best in goal the game looked there for Idle to take and that's just what they did.
Danny received the ball 20 yards out, got the ball out of her feet and on to her favoured left and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner. The home crowd went wild because this was Idles first ever goal against Wigton at this level and what a strike. Idle 1 - 1 Wigton.
Wigton didn't give in and soon pushed Idle back and for the only time in the game got the ball to there centre forward who ran through on goal but fired wide. A lucky escape for Idle.
With 8 minutes left Idle were in dream land. Hard word from Amelia and Sophie saw the ball fall to Rachel, with three defenders in front of her she somehow managed to force a path through on goal, the keeper came out but Rachel made no mistake. Idle 2 - 1 Wigton.
Rachel came off for Katie who move into midfield to help out the tired Idle girls.
Final score Idle Juniors 2 - 1 Wigton Moor United.
Girl of the game once again Azaria, well done and much deserved but quite a few girls ran you close today.

A excellent game played by both teams. Thanks to the ref Marcus who gave the game every chance and also to Howard and his team for another hard fought game.

It feels like we're turning the corner. We are getting better and our football is starting to show through.
Hard work, determination and desire are the things that you bring to most games. You brought the lot today and deserve the three points gained.

Huddersfield away next so more of the same needed.

See you all at training on Wednesday.

Cestria Galaxy -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

24 Jan 2010
Kick-off 13:00

Lost: 3 - 1

After 5 weeks without a game we couldn't have had a harder game to kick off the new year with, Cestria Galaxy up in Durham.

The journey took around 1 & half hours so a good warm up was needed to get the girls ready.

From the kick off Idle got stuck in, the battle for midfield was always going to be tough but credit to our four girls in midfield, Rosie, Danny, Amelia and Macca, they settled well and for the first twenty minutes got the better of the Cestria midfield. It was in this time that Idle scored. A good ball to Sophie (slightly offside maybe) who ran on, beat the keeper and scored. 0 - 1 Idle.
This got Cestria to up the tempo but again the Idle girls did well in nullifying the Cestria play. Cestria got a break when a long and hopeful ball over the Idle defence saw Georgia come off her line, she just got beaten to the ball by the brave Cestria forward who managed to force the ball over the line. Cestria 1 - 1 Idle.
Just on half time Cestria got their noses in front with another bit of fortune, a scramble in midfield saw the ball break to a Cestria player whose shot rebounded off the bar and fell kindly to another Cestria player who score. Half time Cestria 2 - 1 Idle.

Idle hadn't done much wrong and were a little unfortunate to be losing at this stage. Much of the same was required for the second half and the girls didn't dissappoint.

Once again Idle were showing good team work. Georgia played with confidence, Azaria was tackling everything, Roisin was heading, Vanessa was solid, Lauren was hard,
Rachel was never giving in, Macca was up and down her wing, Amelia caused the left hand side of the Cestria team to have nightmares, Rosie and Danny dominated the middle, Sophie is still chancing everything and our two subs Katie and Imogen got stuck in when they were called upon and didn't let the team down.
With five minutes remaining and Idle getting tired the Cestria fitness showed through, a tired defence saw the ball bounce around and finally the ball was poked over the line.
Final score Cestria 3 - 1 Idle.

Well done to Lee and the Cestria girls for a very entertaining game and the after game buffet, much appreciated, thank you.

Well done girls you battled well and certainly could have come home with at least a point today, but not to worry I'm sure we rattled a few feathers for long periods of the game.

Thanks to all parents who gave lifts today and heres to next week against Wigton.

U14 Girls -Vs- Brighouse Juniors - Home

12 Dec 2009
Kick-off 11:00

Won: 2 - 1

Our first ever County cup game see us welcome Brighouse Juniors to Apperley Bridge.

With a full squad of 15 players to choose from and only 14 players allowed to play it was Imogen who kindly stepped aside today. This means that Imy will get a full game next week against Oakworth.

The game kicked off and Idle found it difficult to get going, probably down to the Idle Christmas party the night before. With about ten minutes gone Idle took control and with a bit of luck in front of goal could have scored three or four goals. The deadlock was broken by new signing Sophie who picked the ball up inside her own half and ran at the Brighouse defence, her pace saw her through and with quick feet she rounded the keeper to score. Idle 1 - 0.
With more pressure being put on the Brighouse defence it looked like more goals were coming but a fine goalkeeping performance from the Brighouse keeper kept Idle at bay. Amelia came closest to getting a deserved second for Idle with a fine strike that came back off the upright and across the area to safety. Brighouse were well organised and had four or five girls who could play. A quick break and a mistake in the Idle defence got Brighouse back into the game, Georgia saving well the first effort but couldn't do anything to stop the follow up.
Idle 1 - 1 Brighouse.
The half time whistle went and Idle had time to look at the best way to break down the Brighouse defence.
The second half got under way and Idle forced Brighouse back. Georgia in goal was a virtual spectator but was always vigilant to any quick breaks from the Brighouse forwards. Half way through the second half Idle scored. Zoe worked hard down the left and passed to Rosie who shot towards goal. the keeper couldn't hold the ball and Sophie followed up to score hers and Idles second goal. Idle 2 - 1.
More pressure followed and once again the ball just didn't fall to an Idle player in the Brighouse area. Brighouse certainly defended well and got blocks in and even clear from the goal line. With time running out Brighouse forced a corner which was well defended. Some good headed work by Lauren made clearing the ball easier.
Final score Idle Juniors 2 - 1 Brighouse Juniors.

Thanks to Bernard and the Brighouse girls for a very good and entertaining game of football and good luck for the rest of the season.

well done Idle you played some good football today and passed well.
I've been told by all the parents for more shooting practice this wednesday (haha).
We're through to the quarters now so hopefully another home draw and who knows.

U14 Girls -Vs- Huddersfield Town - Home

05 Dec 2009
Kick-off 11:00

Won: 2 - nil

Huddersfield were the visitors to Apperley Bridge today.
Due to last nights downpour the pitch had one or two puddles.
Thanks to Dave Clegg and Ian from Huddersfield, we manage to get it ready to use.

From the kick off you could see it was going to be a tough encounter.
Both midfields were doing their very best to get on top, but with 20 minutes gone the game was still 0 - 0. Both teams were pushing and probing but strong defences were winning the day.
The opener came with some good work down the right wing, new signing Sophie, combined well with Danny, Danny's cross was met by Zoe whose control and finish were excellent. Idle 1 - 0.
This seemed to settle Idle and with all the squad doing a great job it didn't look like Huddersfield were going to get an equaliser.
With Amelia back from injury she was determined to get involved and what better way than to score. She show good strengh and skill out on the right and her cross come shot sailed into the goal. The away keeper tried to keep it out but it was just too high.
Half time Idle 2 - 0 Huddersfield.

The scond half kicked off and once again the battle in midfield was hard fought. Macca and Azaria were both causing the away team problems with their forward runs.
With 15 minutes gone in the second half the Huddersfield attack got a chance but Georgia flew off her line and saved at the attackers feet.
This was the only chance Idle gave the Huddersfield girls and credit must go to the Idle team as a whole for digging in and out battling their very good opponents.
The score was nearly increased when Danny's effort was brilliently headed off the line and the follow up by Lauren was blocked.
Final score Idle Juniors 2 - 0 Huddersfiled Town.

Thanks to Huddersfield for a great game.

Well done Idle, a deserved victory against a very good team.

Oakworth Juniors -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

21 Nov 2009
Kick-off 08:00

Won: 1 - 4

We travelled to Oakworth for the quarter final of the Cup on a cold wet saturday morning.

Playing up the slope first half Idle needed to settle quickly but Oakworth were in no mood to let Idle have it easy. Two early corners from Oakworth, the first saved well by Georgia and the second saw the ball bounce around in the Idle area and finished hitting the bar and going over for a deadball.
Idle got going after this and Rosie back from injury broke away from the home defence and finished with a thunderous shot into the roof of the net. 0 - 1 Idle.
The goal calmed Idle down and with Azaria all over the midfield it was hard for Oakworth to get any forward momentum. Idle got a second when Katie did well out wide right and cross into the box, Rachel met the ball well and finished with a well taken effort. 0 - 2 Idle.
With a couple of minutes to half time Idle got a deserved third. This time it was Ella putting in a quality cross and Rachel got her second and Idles third with a cool side foot into the corner.
Half time Oakworth 0 - 3 Idle.

The second half saw Oakworth throw caution to the wind and push more girls forward, this left gaps for Idle run into and on another day maybe a few more goal would of been scored.
Oakworth got a deserved goal back with a well taken goal to make it 1 - 3.
With little time left Idle got a forth. A corner form the left by Lauren swung straight into the top corner. Final score Oakworth 1 - 4 Idle.

Thanks to Steve and the Oakworth girls for a hard game.

Well done Idle you played well and carried on from last weeks performance against Bradford.

U14 Girls -Vs- Bradford City Girls - Home

14 Nov 2009
Kick-off 11:00

Won: 3 - 2

Today we welcome Bradford City to Apperley Bridge.

Idle kicked off and were soon putting pressure on the Bradford defence. With only 3 minutes gone Zoe pounced and finished well.
Idle 1 - 0 Bradford.
Idle settled down and soon got a grip on the game. Danny and Azaria were out battling the Bradford girls in midfield and Lauren was doing a good marking job on the impressive Bradford centre forward.
Georgia came off her line with confidence and handled well. Both Vanessa and Ella at full back were coping well with any wide threat. Roisin, who was still recovering from a bad virus still put in a good performance in at sweeper. Amelia and Macca in wide midfield positions were doing a good job containing their markers. Up front Zoe ad Rachel were terrorising the back four of Bradford.
With twenty minutes gone Idle got a deserved second when good work in midfield by Azaria and Danny saw the ball run onto Zoe who lifted the ball over the Bradford keeper. Idle 2 - 0 Bradford.
If Idle needed a warning about Bradfords ability to bounce back they soon had there warning, a great ball to the Bradford centre forward who raced towards the Idle goal but Georgia came out quickly and forced her wide left, she didn't fancy trying a shot with her left foot and this gave Lauren the time to make a excellent block to deny her the goal.
With five minutes left Idle struggled with a straight forward ball down the middle and this time the Bradford forward scored.
Idle 2 - 1 Bradford.
From the restart Idle restored their two goal advantage, Vanessa had time to put a quality ball into the Bradford area and from the scramble Zoe manage to poke the ball home. Half time Idle 3 - 1 Bradford.

Bradford kicked off the second half with more purpose and pushed Idle back, good solid defending kept them at bay but tired legs meant Bradford were going to get some chance of getting back into the game.
With the defence trying to push higher up the pitch Bradford broke through and once again Georgia came out well and forced the Bradford forward wide, with the goal beckening Lauren somehow got back and made the tackle of the game to deny Bradford from scoring.
With ten minutes remaining Bradford got the break they probably deserved and this time Idle were powerless to stop the ball from crossing the line. Idle 3 - 2 Bradford.
Final score Idle 3 - 2 Bradford.

Well done to both teams for a entertaining game, at the end the result could have gone either way with Idle being the better team in the first half and Bradford shading the second.

Lastly I would like to mention the bad feeling towards the end of the game from certain parents and supporters who felt that the crowd shouldn't encourage good honest challanges. The referee was excellent today and made the game flow without any fuss. If any player overstepped the mark I'm sure they would have been dealt with by the ref. No individual was signalled out by either sides supporters and this made the game an excellent advertisement for girls football.

Thank you to Darryl and Noel from Bradford for yet another close encounter.

Back to Idle you ground out the result and with hard determined team work you got a just reward. (even without your inspirational captian Rosie)
A special Thanks to Imogen and Katie who saw little to no action today. I promise more game time next time out.

Well done once again and thanks to all parents and supporters who made the game an enjoyable event.

SQUAD: Amelia Andre, Danny Camp, Rachel Clegg, Vanessa Dunn, Roisin Gartland, Zoe Hester (3), Katie Hobson, Imogen Kerin, Azaria King, Rosie McDonnell, Georgia Tate [GK], Lauren Tate [Cptn], Ella Tattersfield.

U14 Girls -Vs- Oakworth Juniors - Home

31 Oct 2009
Kick-off 11:00

Draw: nil - nil

Today we welcome Oakworth Juniors to Apperley Bridge.

We turned up today with only 11 girls available due to girls away on holiday or not well.
With only 2 minutes gone Idle went down to 10 players when Roisin had to leave the field due to not feeling well.
With ten players Idle looked to be facing an up hill task but the girls never took a backwards step and took the game to Oakworth.
Chances came but unfortunately Idle couldn't convert their hard work.
Idles best chance falling to Zoe who had to lift the ball to beat the oncoming keeper but unluckily hit the bar.

Rather than give a run down of the game today I would like to give a idividual account of the girls who played.

Georgia - Goalkeeper.
Had very little to do but when asked she came out well and handled with confidence.
Ella - Right Back.
How well you've come on. You're showing strength in your tackling and kicking. Had an excellent game.
Vanessa - Left Back.
A big change from last week. A lot more comfortable a full back and help out down the left when needed. Well done.
Roisin - Centre Back.
Had a bad night but still didn't want to let the team down and tried to play. It was best she came off and went back to bed.
Lauren - Centre Back.
Covered across the back as if your life depended on it. Tackled, blocked and pushed forward when possible. Unlucky late on not to score with a long weaving run and a left foot shot just going wide. A lot of parents/supporters watching thought you were excellent.
Katie - Right Midfield.
Another fine display. Your size is very deceiving. Tackled well and covered a lot of area. Well done.
Amelia - Centre Midfield.
Had a great game at the heart of the midfield. You looked at your most dangerous when pushed out wide right and put some excellent crosses over. Excellent well done.
Rosie - Centre Midfield/Centre Back.
Started in midfield but with Roisin going off had to drop back into the heart of defence. Worked very hard along side Lauren in a position you don't like to play. This performance today was outstanding and if a captain has to stand up and be counted than today you certainly did. A fine example to all, well done Rosie back to your best.
Macca (Rosie M) - Left Midfield.
You've carried on your form well this season. Pushing you into midfield is paying off and you've given the whole team another attacking option. Skinned your marker everytime and was unlucky not to score. Voted girl of the game yet again, well done.
Azaria - Centre Midfield.
Pushed into centre midfield from full back. You certainly got stuck in. With girls twice your size all around you, you could have been forgiven if you felt intimidated but once that whistle goes you turn into a Tiger and your energy to cover the whole pitch help today. Very close to girl of the game, well done Azaria.
Zoe - Lone Wolf Centre Forward.
Two weeks running you've had to run the front line on your own. A very difficult and hard job to do. Not only have you done an excellent job at that but you bring other players into the game when you hold the ball up. Unlucky today when your shot hit the bar.
For the record you scored twice last week so I will make sure you get the goal which a certain daughter (Lauren) told me Amelia had scored.

Final score: Idle Juniors 0 - 0 Oakworth Juniors.

Well done to Oakworth on getting off the mark with your first point. I'm sure many more will follow before the season ends.

Well done to the Idle girls for showing team spirit, commitment and good football with only ten players.

U14 Girls -Vs- York Cubs - Home

24 Oct 2009
Kick-off 11:00

Won: 4 - 1

Today Idle Welcome York Cubs to Apperley Bridge.

York are an astablished team at 11 aside but due to a mix up of what day we were playing on they could only field 9 players.

York kicked off and son found the going tough with two less on the field. Idle started brightly and scored after 9 minutes through Zoe tapping in after the York stand in keeper couldn't hold onto a shot from Danny. 1 - 0 Idle.
From the restart York pushed forward and once again our failure to put a head to the ball was our downfall and the outstanding York centre forward made no mistake and score from 25 yards out. 1 - 1.
Idle put pressure on the York defence and good work from Lauren and Macca down the left caused York problems. On another day Idle would have probably scored more than the scoreline suggested. Idle got a second just before half time, and once again a shot from Lauren this time wasn't held and Amelia tapped home. Half time Idle 2 - 1 York.

At half time a stern talk was needed just to stress that at 2 -1 York were still in the game.
Idle started brighter and passed the ball well out wide. Maybe I was being a little bit too tough and put too much pressure on the girls because of the numerical advantage. I was expecting the girls to score more but credit to York the held a good back line and solid midfield and made it very hard for the Idle girls to break down. Maybe at eleven v eleven Idle would have got more out of the game.
With York not putting the Idle goal under too much pressure it was a matter of time before the good inter passing between Zoe and Macca would pay off. A couple of one, twos and Macca was through on goal, her first effort was well saved but the follow up with her not so favourite right foot hit the back of the net. 3 - 1 Idle.
With ten minutes left a short corner on the right by Danny to Roisin who quickly passed the ball back to Danny, she shifted the ball back onto her left and her shot come cross squeezed under the keeper and made it four for Idle. Final score Idle 4 - 1 York.

Well done to York today for playing throughout with only 9 players. At certain times it looked like it was Idle who had only 9 players such was the commitment by the York girls. At 11 v 11 a closer game would have been on the cards.

Back to Idle, it was a game that we were never going to lose under the circumstances but it is never easy playing against a team who are determined to sit and defend and try and catch you on the break. Credit to York they did this well and caught us out twice.
Now that I've had time to relax and look back at the overall game I thought that we actually played some good football and even though we got caught out in midfield a few times we should of coped better as a team. Rosie and Danny were isolated at times on the big pitch with Amelia and Macca pulling wide. Ella and Azaria did well at full backs, Lauren got involved in all areas and Roisin covered well.
Vanessa making her debut did ok, it was her first competitive game at 11 aside. Zoe held the front line well and got involved more which was good to see, Katie surprises me every week, she is certainly improving and passes very well. Georgia handled well.

Overall girls it wasn't too bad. Next week we are at home to Oakworth so maybe we can move up another level.

U14 Girls -Vs- Wigton Moor United - Home

10 Oct 2009
Kick-off 11:30

Lost: nil - 4

Today we welcome last seasons league and cup winners Wigton Moor United.

Wigton are a very well organised side who keep the ball well and make you work hard to get possession.

Wigton kicked off and for the first twenty minutes it was a stalemate in the middle of the park with both sides battling well but having no effect on either defences. This was going to be who ever makes the first mistake was going to be up against it.
Wigton got that break, Idles goalie Georgia made three wrong decisions and put the Idle defenders under pressure, Wigton put pressure on the ball which saw the ball slowly roll into the Idle goal. 0 - 1 Wigton.
Idle seemed to up the tempo and got forward from the restart with more determination. Danny put the ball into the Wigton area and a awkward bounce saw the ball strike a Wigton defender on the arm and a penalty was given. Rosie took the penalty but didn't strike the ball well. The keeper made an easy save and the score stayed 0 - 1 to Wigton.
Wigton got a second with a well taken shot from a wide angle which hit the top corner of the Idle net. 0 - 2 Wigton.
Half time Idle 0 - 2 Wigton

The second half was hopefully going to be an improvement but the Idle girls heads went down for a second week running when they
conceded a third. Under no pressure a Wigton player shot from the right wing, the ball seemed harmlessly going back to Georgia but she got her bearings all wrong and the ball squeezed through her arms and legs and trickled into the net. 0 - 3 Wigton.
Idle were now just going through the motions and conceded a forth, the Wigton centre forward beat two defenders but seemed to push the ball to far in front of her, with everyone shouting for Georgia to run out and kick the ball away she hesitated and stopped half way allowing the Wigton girl to poke the ball home.
Final score Idle 0 - 4 Wigton Moor.

Congratulation to Wigton for the game. You certainly have the beating of us at the moment but hopefully next time we can give you a stiffer challenge.

Idle at times you played some good football but then you let yourselves down by passing the buck and thinking someone else will do the hard work.
The goalkeeper is the one position on the field that cannot afford to make mistakes. In my oppinion today Georgia made three glaring errors of judgement and each time Wigton scored. Last week Georgia showed just how well she can play in goal but today I think nerves got to her.
I know deep down these last two defeats hurt but we know that if we play to our true potential we have nothing to fear and we can turn these scores around.
Thanks to all the parents for your support and hopefully we will put it right for our next game.

SQUAD: Amelia Andre, Danny Camp, Rachel Clegg, Rosie Dawson [Cptn], Roisin Gartland, Zoe Hester, Katie Hobson, Imogen Kerin, Azaria King, Rosie McDonnell, Georgia Tate [GK], Lauren Tate, Ella Tattersfield.

Cestria Girls -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

04 Oct 2009
Kick-off 13:00

Lost: 5 - 1

Today saw us to travel all the way to Sedgefield, which is just outside Hartlepool, to play Cestria Galaxy.

Cestria are new to the WEST RIDING GIRLS LEAGUE but are by no means novices when it comes to playing football. They have a Scottish international who plays at the heart of their team.

Due to the long journey three girls felt travel sick on arriving with two recovering in time to take to the field. Imogen only came round for the last 5 minutes and had to suffer the long journey home feeling ill.
Idle kicked off with the strong breeze in their faces and a slight slope to contend with. The Cestria girls moved the ball around but found it hard breaking the Idle defence down.
Idle tried to get some offensive going but the wind and Cestrias dogged tackling meant our two front players Zoe and Rachel had to do a lot of tracking back. Rosie and Danny were coping well with the very impressive Cestria's Scottish international in midfield. Azaria showed good strength at left back and Katie did the same at right back.
Amelia and Macca worked tirelessly up and down the flanks stopping any crosses coming in. Roisin and Lauren at the heart of the Idle defence stood strong and showed good anticipation when needed.
Georgia our goalie was ill all night and it was touch and go to whether she was going to play but she didn't want to let her team mates down and played a blinder, she saved well from some long range attempt and when she was called upon she came off her line well.
30 minutes in and Cestria got a breakthrough when a sliced clearance from Ella who had just come on for Katie at right back, went straight to the Cestria centre forward, she hit the ball hard into the right hand corner giving Georgia no chance. Cestria 1 - 0 Idle.
Right from the kick off Cestria pressured the ball and a sleeping Idle allowed the same girl time to score a second. Cestria 2 - 0 Idle.
Half time Cestria 2 - 0 Idle

Due to the conditions 2 down at half time wasn't a bad score knowing that we could now use the wind and the slight slope to our advantage to get back into the game.
Idle pushed on and signs were that we were getting back into the game and gaps were starting to open for our two front girls to start pressurising the Cestria back four. 8 minutes in and the game was soured by two very strange decisions by the referee. Firstly Zoe was coming back from an offside position and made no attempt to go for the ball, the ball then was touched by at least three different players, Zoe by this time was clearly back on side and went for the ball. The ref gave her offside for the first offence. I still don't get this ruling, I thought that once you came back onside you could join in with play, you see goals scored every week by players starting off in offside positions but then join in once they are back onside.
From the resulting freekick Cetrias International received the ball and played a through ball to a forward player who was clearly offside by at least 7 or 8 yards but the ref played on and the she scored passed the oncoming Georgia. Most of the parents from both sides were very annoyed that a blatant offside had been missed and goal was given. Cestria 3 - 0 Idle.
Idles heads started to go down, something that I don't see to often but Cestria are an excellent side and don't need hand outs by the referee. I know he is going to make mistakes but it is hard to swallow when the girls are trying their hardest to get back into the game when something like this happens.
Danny who was having a good game when she was taken out by a crude challenge from a Cestria defender, a fifty fifty ball was won by Danny but her reward was a kick just below the knee. A freekick was awarded but I thought a word in the Cestria defenders ear to keep her feet down might have been called for. Two more goals followed for Cestria but with Idle pushing forward, Danny off through injury and Lauren who was having a fine game in defence having to leave the field it just wasn't to be.
Idle got a consolation goal, Rachel raced on to a through ball from an offside position and scored well.
Final score Cestria Galaxy 5 - 1 Idle Juniors.

Congatulations to Cestria for a lesson in playing football. you played well throughout the game and deserved the win.

Idle you learn by your mistakes. Two sloppy goals conceded just before half time took away all the hard work you had put in. At two down you still had chances to get back into the game but today it just wasn't to be. Thats two games running when decisions haven't gone our way.
Days will come when you get the rub of the green.
A very hard game but not to dissappointing. At least we know that we can compete with an international player on the opposite side.

Finally at the time of the third goal a few words were exchanged between the ref and a Idle supporter which resulted in the ref sending the supporter from the playing area.
What happened was very out of charecter and was said in the heat of the moment. He is sincerely sorry for his actions and sends his oppologies to everyone on both sides, referee included.
I've had a stern word with the person in question and I'm sure that it won't happen again.
I hope that we can put this matter behind us and move forward.

Thank you.

Bradford City Girls -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

20 Sep 2009
Kick-off 11:00

Won: 1 - 3

Todays game saw us play away to our local rivals Bradford City.
City are a mixed team of the old Prospect and Thackley teams joined together.
Idle kicked off knowing a good start was essential. In past games between our teams the team starting well always finished winning the game.
Idle struck first with a well taken goal by Zoe, she raced on to a long ball and held the defender off and shot across the keeper, the ball going in off the post. 0 - 1 Idle.
Idle battled well on a big pitch. Rosie and Danny in midfield taking control and Idles back four of Azaria, Roisin, Lauren and Imogen holding the City girls at arms length. Georgia showed good handling and positioning in goal.
After ten minutes Idle got a second. With City hitting the Idle crossbar at one end the ball was cleared and good work by Macca out on the left, she put Rachel through who hit the back of the net with a well taken effort. 0 - 2 Idle.
Citys quick forward Jessie was causing Roisin and Lauren problems and with ten minutes left before half time she made the most of some poor tackling and scored. Bradford 1 - 2 Idle.
Half time Bradford 1 - 2 Idle.

The second half was more of the same but with Amelia coming into the game out right the game started to go Idles way. The better chances were being created by the Idle players and on another day Idle should have had at least two penalties. Rosie and Danny both hit the keeper from close range, Zoe had a good shot saved and a volley by Rachel was flying in only to hit Amelia on the back of the head and deflect wide. Ella came on for the injured Imogen and Katie replaced the injured Rachel, they both settled in well and got into the speed of the game.
Idle were pushing City back at every oppotunity and it was Zoe who got Idles third and her second. Good passing on the left from the impressive Macca put Zoe into a shooting chance, she picked her spot and scored. 1 - 3 Idle.
With time running out Citys best chance of the half fell to Jessie who found space on the left, she raced towards goal but Georgia was in no mood to concede again and made a great save with her legs.
Final score Bradford City 1 - 3 Idle Juniors.

Thanks to Darryl, Noel and the Bradford girls for an excellent game.
It was your third competitive game at eleven aside so don't be down heartened. The season's only just started and their's a long way to go.

Idle what can I say. I asked for commitment, desire and effort, you gave me all of that and more. A great effort by all and it a fair result at the end of the game. Well done to Georgia and Macca for the match point shared.
PS. well done to parents and supporters for getting behind the girls and encouraging them throughout the game.

U14 Girls -Vs- Wigton Moor Athletic - Home

19 Sep 2009
Kick-off 11:00

Won: 11 - nil

Todays visitors were Wigton Moor Athletic.

A beautiful day for playing football.
Wigton kicked off and passed the ball back to their big centre back to launch the ball forward, Zoe and Rachel chased her down causing her to miss hit her kick forward. Once Idle got at the Wigton players there was only going to be one winner.
Five minutes in and Rachel pounced, she out ran the Wigton defence and hit her shot into the left hand corner. 1 - 0 Idle.
10 minutes gone and Rachel got a second, once again she showed good strength and balance and finished well. 2 - 0 Idle.
15 minutes gone and a third was scored. Zoe this time making the most of a mix up in the Wigton defence, she was under pressure but kept her feet well to shoot passed the Wigton keeper. 3 - 0 Idle.
Wigton were looking a bit shell shocked by now but to their credit still tried to get their passing game going but with Roisin solid at the heart of Idles defence, Idle were in no mood to give anything away.
Idles forth goal and Rachels third came from a good move down the right, Amelia putting her through and with only the keeper to beat she made no mistake. 4 - 0 Idle.
Idle were now in cruise control and a corner from the left by Danny swung away from goal and was met by Rosie D who volleyed home.
5 - 0 Idle.
Not to be outdone by her midfield partner, Danny got Idles sixth, a good move this time down the Idle right wing saw Danny receiving the ball just inside the area and finished neatly into the net. 6 - 0 Idle.
Last weeks goal machine Macca got in on the act and scored just before half time, a good pass inside the Wigton full back by Lauren to Macca and from a tight angle she still manage to find the bottom corner. 7 - 0 Idle.
Half time Idle 7 - 0 Wigton.

The second half saw Zoe and Macca take a breather and Imogen and Ella came on and took up the full back positions. Wigton were lucky not to concede anymore goals due to the bar and post coming to their help on at least five occasions just after half time.
It was 20 minutes into the second half before Idle hit the net again. Rosie was tripped 25 yards out from goal. The resulting freekick saw Sophie striking the ball into the Wigton net. Her first goal for Idle. (it definately won't be her last). 8 - 0 Idle.
The game was looking a bit scrappy now but Idle still pushed forward. Azaria on minus 1 goal due to her scoring in her own goal in a preseason friendly was soon putting that right with a thunderous shot which hit the roof of the Wigton net. 9 - 0 Idle.
Macca was now back on made the most of having a rest, she raced down the left and cut inside the keeper came out but she keep a cool head and finished well. 10 - 0 Idle.
The scoring was rounded off by Rachel with her forth of the game another cool finish. Final score Idle juniors 11 - 0 Wigton moor Athletic.

Thanks to Georgia in goal who only got about 5 or 6 touches of the ball throughout the game.

Thanks to Neil and the Wigton girls who gave it a good go.

Well done girls although you didn't play as good as last week you certainly put the work in and closed your opponents down. A bit more passing to players in space rather than running with ball make it easier all round but I'm sure you'll learn.

Well done to all the parents for your support.

Oakworth Juniors -Vs- U14 Girls - Away

91 200
Kick-off 11:00

Won: nil - 8

Well here we go.

Ide travelled to Oakworth Juniors for their first game of the season.
A bright sunny day on an excellent surface saw Idle get off to a flying start.
Idle kicked off and after only 3 minutes the home defence conceded.
Idles top scorer from last year Rachel pounced in the Oakworth area and finished well. 0 - 1 Idle.
Idle settled into a good rhythm and pressured the ball in all areas of the pitch. Some good passing and moving saw the Oakworth players working overtime just to keep Idle at bay. New signing Sophie was unlucky on several occasions not to open her account for Idle, the home keeper making some excellent saves to deny her.
Idles second came from some good work down Idles right by Katie and Amelia, they battled well and managed to get the ball across the the area and Macca (Rosie M) finishing well inside the Oakworth box. 0 - 2 Idle.
Once again with Idle pressurising the home team into mistakes, it wasn't long before a third goal came. Five girls were involved in a slick passing move which saw Rosie finding Danny on the edge of the area and a fine finish into the right hand corner. 0 - 3 Idle.
2 minutes before half time saw Rachel get her second and Idles forth, a great turn and run created the opening and her finish was top draw. Half time Oakworth 0 - 4 Idle.

The instructions at half time were to keep the pressure on and get the ball moving quickly.
4 minutes in saw Macca get her second and Idles fifth, a mix up in the area and with bodies all around Macca calmly slotted the ball into the corner. 0 - 5 Idle.
Idle now were enjoying themselves and with Azaria, Roisin and Lauren solid at the back and Georgia commanding her area the confidence grew throughout the team. 6 minutes into the second half saw Amelia unleash a thunderous right foot shot from 25 yards, the shot was too good for the very good home keeper to keep out. 0 - 6 Idle.
Oakworth to there credit didn't give in but Idle didn't give them any chances to get on the score sheet. 9 minutes in and this time Rosie decided to try from outside the box, the keeper manage to get to the shot but couldn't stop the ball from going in. 0 - 7 Idle.
With Ella on the subs bench, coming on to give the other girls a breather throughout the game, Idle looked to be the more settled and balanced side. The scoring was completed by Macca with her third. Sophie received the ball in the Oakworth box but with her back to goal she unselfishly passed to Macca who still had to beat the home keeper from a tight angle but didn't disappoint. Final score Oakworth Juniors 0 - 8 Idle Juniors.

Thanks to Steve and Oakworth for a good enjoyable game played in the right spirit.

Well done Idle. I said before the game it was all about applying yourselves and being mentally ready. You certainly were!
Lets take this attitude into our next game, at home to Wigton Moor Athletic next Saturday.

SQUAD: Amelia Andre (1), Danny Camp (1), Rachel Clegg (2), Rosie Dawson (1) [Cptn], Roisin Gartland, Katie Hobson, Azaria King, Rosie McDonnell (3), Georgia Tate [GK], Lauren Tate, Ella Tattersfield, Sophie Varley.
