28 Apr 2010

Idle finished thier fantastic season with a 8-3 win over Calverley. The win meant Idle finished 17 points clear at the top of the table, having only lost and drawn once, socring 104 goals along the way and only conceding 30. We finished with the best scoring and clean sheet record in the league. Leon Wilton finished top scorer with 20 goals and in a close second Ben Dearnley with 19.

The game 2-2 10 mins before half time, with Calverley having 5 in midfield, Idle soon found the gaps in the back 3 and used there pace to get round and down the wings and the goals soon followed.

The boys have done brilliantly this season, worked very hard and have got their reward, the hardest task for next season is defending the title.

Oakworth -Vs- U14s - Away

25 Apr 2010
Kick-off 13:30

Won: nil - 3

Idle visited a very wet Oakworth as newly crowned league winners, taking the title from todays hosts who before the game could still finish second.
Idle once again started brilliantly going 1-0 up a ball over the top beat a high oakworth line, L.Wilton latched beat the defence for pace and put the ball past an oncoming keeper with ease.
The ground hadnt seen much water before the game and was still very hard, which made the bounce of the ball very difficult to judge at times, but the back 4 and goalkeeper held strong throughout to keep a clean sheet.
P.Cooper's tireless work was once again rewarded with a goal, the biggest surprise..... it was his RIGHT foot that did the damage with a curled effort across the keeper into the top corner!
M.Hamzah completed the tally some tidy football was laid off for him to slot into the bottom corner from just inside the box.

An all round great performance even with the 1st spot in the league confirmed, a desire to still win 3pts on show throughout, even with Oakworth still fighting to finish 2nd. A non-stop work rate gained J.Whiteley Man of the Match.

Idle can now reach 49 pts with a win over Carverley at Hanson School on Wednesday, 18-30 Kick off, RED KIT!

U14s -Vs- BD3 Utd - Home

21 Apr 2010
Kick-off 18:30

Draw: 2 - 2

Idle hosted in form BD3 to Hanson school, Idle's 1st game since being confirmed as League Champions.

Their was no sign of Idle being in end of season mode in the early stages of the game as they went 1-0 up through a tremendous strike from L.Wilton thanks to some great link up from B.Dearnley, an early goal was possibly the worse thing that could happen to Idle as the end of season attitude kicked in, BD3 never gave up and a goal looked imminent, Idle some how got to Half time still one nil up, H.Clarke with some fine saves and positive takes from crosses.

Both teams came out looking like HT hadnt even happened, and within the 1st 5 mins BD3 pressure finally paid off and they got their goal, even if it could have been better dealt with defensivly. Soon after came BD3'd 2nd goal, a free kick well saved by H.Clarke, fell to a quick thinking striker that got goalside of Idle defence made it 2-1. Going behind made Idle change their formation and go for the equiliser, a spot of good luck and hard work from L.Wilton found a gap to put the much needed equilser in.

Idle were very unlucky to go down to ten men after a a disagreement with some handbags involved which the referre deemed a sending off offence.
Idle had to hold out for 10 mins of the game remaining with 10 men, as BD3 continued their pressure, Idle kept the score at 2-2, but could have stole it late on with a chance at the near post missed.

Next game - Sunday Oakworth away, 13-30 kick off -

Won: 7 - 2

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS WITH 3 GAMES TO SPARE!!

Idle Juniors confirmed there 1st league title at the 4th attempt, and with 3 games to spare with a 7-2 win at home to Queensbury.

There was a big crowd from both sides to see the game both for different reasons. Idle started well and were 4-0 up after 25 mins. L.Wilton getting the 1st 2. M.Hamzah with a left footed rocket from the right side leaving the keeper no chance. P.Cooper was have his usual joy down the left leaving the defenders for dust and getting 2 goals.
A steady and sure performance at the back kept Queensbury at bay but only twice letting the opposition through due to distractions off the ball before their attack. P.Hartley, M.Hamzah completed the scoring.

The game ended on abit of a sour note, with an opposition parent coming onto the pitch after an incident the referee dealt with.

Thanks to Queensbury management for congratulating the team on the seasons performance and winning the league.

Final score 7-2

U14s -Vs- Farsley Celtic - Home

28 Mar 2010
Kick-off 14:00

Won: 9 - 2

Idle were hosts to Farsley Celtic, Idle knowing they only needed 2 wins from the 5 remaining games would win them the league, Farsley being an unknown outfit as they are known to chop and change there team due to having 2 squads.

Idle were out of the blocks early, with quick and precise passing and crossing along with clinical finishing. P.Hartley supplying the endless crosses, for B.Dearnley and L.Wilton getting 5 goals between them.

P.Hartley got a just deserved goal after his tireless work down the right flank, also well deserving of the MOM.

Farsley scored with a long range effort againest the run of play.

4-1 HT

Idle continued with more of the same in the second half, showing the desire of wanting to be league champions after the 4th time of trying. Goals from J.Whiteley and P.Cooper sealed the points.

Final score 9-2

Idle now only need 2 points to seal the League title, but it could be confirmed before their next game at home to Queensbury April 14th, if Oakworth drop any more points.

U14s -Vs- Bingley Jnrs - Home

21 Mar 2010
Kick-off 14:00

Won: 22 - 1

High flying Idle Juniors played host to lowly Bingley.
Bingley have had a difficult season so far, and im sure coming to the home of the league leaders didnt fill them with much hope for what was to unfold over the 70 minute match.

The quality of the home side didnt take long to show what they had, 5-0 up within such a small time from the kick off was a sign of things to come.
Speed, creativity, power, skill, control, all on show as Idle zipped the ball around to find goal after goal.
Bingley never gave up and even had a laugh and a joke after the game, i hope they stick together and carry on as a team for next season.
As there was so many goals its impossible for me to comment on them all, so heres a pick of the bunch that stood out the most from memory. Sorry if i missed any.
K.Pierce, 30 yrds out, left footed screamer. No celebration, Ice Man!
J.Strudwick, Edge of the box cleverly crafted strike over the keeper.
T.Hill, Beatifully controlled on his knee from the cross, caught it with a superb volley, his second nearly burst the ball he struck it that hard, Centre forward next week??
Not a chance with B.Dearnley getting 5 and L.Wilton getting 2.
Also a Hat-trick from P.Hartley, well done!
Final Score 22-1
Other Goalscorers
M.Hamzah 2
P.Cooper 1
M.Kraus 1
J. Swales 2
J.Whiteley 2

The race to be leading goalscorer is also hotting up, check out the stats on the team info page.

BD3 Utd -Vs- U14s - Away

14 Mar 2010
Kick-off 12:30

Won: nil - 2

Possibly the most eagerly anticipated tie of the season so far, with the history on and off the field with the two sides.
Everything that could have been done before the match, to ensure it was just football being played, was taken care of.
Another blustery day at Myra Shay along with the size of the pitch would have caused Idle problems a season ago, but pure grit, character and determination to maintain top spot got Idle through today with 3pts.
Two well worked combonations created both Idles goals in the 1st half. The 1st was created from a blistering run from P.Cooper taking on 3 players down the left side, to eventually slip L.Wilton through who gratefully slotted past the keeper to make it 1-0 Idle.
The second came from the right side P.McKendrick playing a one-two with B.Dearnley into the penalty area only to be brought down, J.Whiteley slotted home the resulting penalty kick, to make it 2-0. P.McKendrick was the centre of the action again only at the other end of the pitch, clearing a BD3 chance off the line, something he's done 2 weeks on the trot now.
2-0 HT
BD3 UTD, came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half, having the majority of the possession, a change of formation to a more attacking one, to try bring back the deficit. Solid work from the back 4 and great hands by H.Clarke kept BD3 out.
As the pressure did build a more defensive formation from Idle helped them see the second half out.
Idle had chances to kill the game but some great saves from the BD3 keeper kept the scoreline at 2-0
A mention to both teams for keeping their heads firmly on playing football throughout the tie and nothing else.
Well done.
Idle stay 5 pts clear at the top of the league with a game in hand over nearest rivals Silsden, with only 6 games remaining, 5 at home 1 away.

Silsden -Vs- U14s - Away

07 Mar 2010
Kick-off 12:30

Won: 2 - 4

Idle traveled to closest rivals Silsden, Idle had the chance to go 5 pts clear with a game in hand, an oppourtunity we didnt want to miss out on.
Idle were second best in the early stages of the game and if it wasnt for a clearence off the line from P. McKendrick we would have been one nil down.
Idle eventually found there feet, and went 1-0 up against the run of play a corner hit to the near post was missed by the Silsden player on the post it found a grateful T.Hill who slotted it in from close range.
Wingers P.Cooper and M.Hamzah were having alot of joy down the flanks against the 3-5-2 Silsden formation. It eventually paid off M.Hamzah broke through the right took it inside struck the ball across the keeper into the bottom corner 2-0. Idle continued to press, while keeping Silsden quiet as they attempted to get back into the game. The 3rd soon followed, good work with the ball inside the area facing away from goal, L.Wilton tricked and turned the Silsden defence to gain a yard of space to beat the Silsden keeper at his near post.
Silsden were shell shocked and it got worse for the home side as M.Hamzah powered a header from a well flighted corner from J.Whiteley to make it Idle 4-0 at HT.
The team talk was for more of the same, keeping the ball in wide areas away from a boggy and poor Silsden pitch.
More of the same came at the beginning of the 2nd half L.Wilton missed a one v one, which should have made it 5-0.
The referee allowed the game to flow, with plenty of tough tackles from both sides. Silsden were unlucky not to get what looked like a definate penalty but the man with the whistle said no!
A mini-revival from Silsden came with 20 mins left, two goals that were quite fortunate, both goals gifted from poor clearences by Idle, the 1st looked to have been kicked out of H.Clarke's hands, the 2nd was a definate offside.
Idle held out, and gave it 110% throughout the game, a well deserved win as their push for a 1st league title strengthens.
Well done boys!

Keighley Shamrocks -Vs- U14s - Away

28 Feb 2010
Kick-off 12:30

Won: 4 - 5

Todays game was away to Keighley Shams,
I missed the game due to work commitments, Idle came away with the 3pts and gained 1st place in the league 2 pts off closest rivals and next weeks opponents Silsden with a game in hand.

Idle road there luck, 4-2 at HT. a nervy end to the game, that was refereed by Keighleys Manager, so you can make your own minds up on how much that effected the game.

A match that Idle would have last season thrown away points in a similar situation but new determination and strength brought the lads throw a tough test of character.

Final score 5-4 Idle

14 Feb 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Won: 2 - 6

I missed this weekends game due to my assessment of my Level 2 coaching course. Idle went 2-0 up, and were in control from the off. 2 thunderous free-kicks from Queensbury made it 2-2 at Half time. Strong defence and quick attack gave idle another 4 in the second half.
A very important win away from home against what can be an awkward opposition in sometimes awful weather conditions. The return leg is this coming sunday 21st Feb.

Guiesley Jnrs -Vs- U14s - Away

07 Feb 2010
Kick-off 14:00

Won: 1 - 4

Idle made the short trip to Littlemoor School to play Mid-table Guiseley Juniors, after another weeks break due to the bad weather it was another stop start routine we were getting into, the game was on and the pitch was good.
The classic slow start didn't effect Idle today as they went 1-0 up early on thanks to M.Hamzah, a burst from the right cutting into the box a shot hitting the bar which bounce just over the line after a moment of not knowing if it was a goal or not the referee confirmed it crossed the line.
Guiseley are a very big side and with little chances infront of goal early on, they made use of the height advantage at a corner, poor marking give the opponents the equiliser. 1-1 HT
A lighting fast start from Idle saw them go 3-1 within 5 minutes of the restart, a quick throw from K.Pierce was met with a flick on from B.Dearnley which looped over the keeper. A great goal, intentional or not. The 3rd came soon after a break on the left from Cooper feed a great through ball into L.Wilton who finished 1v1 against the on rushing keeper.
4-1 came with 15 mins to go, a mazy run from Cooper down the left dribbling in and out of 2 defenders to slot past the keeper, Guiseley were shell shocked by what he'd just done.
The game was out of Guiseley's reach and the game became more and more physical, a frustrated striker lost his cool, but the Idle players who always look after each other soon defused the situation. A great game and a well deserved 3 points.

Bingley Juniors -Vs- U14s - Away

24 Jan 2010
Kick-off 10:00

Won: 1 - 5

After a long break due to the poor weather and festive period, Idle visited newly promoted Bingley.
With 5 minutes to start the game Bingley only had 8 players and could only field 10 by the full time whistle.
The numbers advantage showed early on as Idle went 1-0 up. M.Hamzah following up on a parried shot by the Goalkeeper. Idle's Attackive formation continued to press and probe the Bingley team, who showed at times tough resolve. A second goal for Idle came before the break from M.Kraus.

More of the same in the second half came from Idle a rocket from M.Hamzah gave him his second. A breakdown in play from Idle and pushing too many players forward in search for the 4th goal, gave Bingley a counter attack to make it 3-1. M.Hamzah sealed a well deserved Hat-trick with a low shot hit to the inside of the goalkeepers post. 4-1. A great performance from T.Hill got his reward for getting the 5th goal, a clever free kick floated into the box by J.Whiteley was flicked onto the chest of T.Hill and bounced into the Bingley goal. They all count eh Tom?!

Not the best performance Idle can produce but after a long break getting back into the swing of things and getting 3pts was the main objective.

U14s -Vs- Whitkirk Wanderers - Home

13 Dec 2009
Kick-off 13:30

Lost: nil - 2

Idle Juniors crashed out of the Junior Trophy 2 goals to nil by a well organised and physical Whitkirk Wanderers. The scoreline didnt reflect the efforts Idle put into the game, after a promising start it looked like the game was going to be a close one. The speed and quick thinking of the Idle wingers, Cooper and Hamzah, made it hell for the opponents but didnt find a way through. A corner deflected goalwards off an Idle player gave Whitkirk a surprising lead, Whitkirk had strike partners with speed, height and strength, a ball over the top was latched on first time by the striker outside of the boot and looped over the keeper into the goal. 2-0 half time.
Idle came out in the second half with renewed hope knowing they had the better of the 1st half just on the wrong side of the scoreline. Hard work created chances for Dearnley and Wilton but were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, Both keepers kept their teams in the game, Idle just couldnt get the ball into the Whitkirk goal. Stand in Left back and captain Strudwick came out man of the match, P. Cooper was also praised for part in the game from the Whitkirk manager.

Carverley -Vs- U14s - Away

15 Nov 2009
Kick-off 12:30

Won: 2 - 3

Idle Juniors travelled to new boys Calverley Juniors, knowing 3pts would take them to the top of the league. We turned up to the pitch with the referee mowing the grass to see the lines on the pitch! The long grass, didnt help alongside the poor start Idle had. Human error let the home side in to make it 1-0. A goalmouth scramble from a corner let Idle in for the to make the score even, a toe poke from T.Hill got the teams to half time.
The second half was won and lost in the midfield with a few half chances for both sides that came to nothing, Until a great link up play from B.Dearnley and L.Wilton put Idle infront after L.Wilton rounded the keeper hit a shot which hit both posts and the ball fortunatly landing back at his feet to hit the rebound in.
Calverley hit back with some strong pressure making Idle revert to a more defensive formation, the home side were pushing on for an equilser but a quick break from the back and speedy work from the goalscorer P.Cooper give Idle a 3-1 lead. Great work from M.Hamzah, J.Whiteley and J.Strudwick as a middle midfield three, saw Idle through, a consilation goal for the home side in the last minute made the final score 3-2.

U14s -Vs- Keighley Shamrocks - Home

08 Nov 2009
Kick-off 14:00

Won: 5 - nil

Idle were hosts to newly promoted Keighley Shamrocks, what was a bitterly cold Rememberance Sunday, which wasnt helped by a delayed kick off. A defensive 1st half formation from the opposition made it difficult for the Idle to break down, their frustration was matched from the sidelines. Keighley at times looked like they could have nicked something with a couple of half chances. The visitors were made to look like they had defended well as Idle missed a hat ful of chances infront of goal and Keighley looked like they were to take a half time 0-0 but a break down the right from M.Kraus who stromed into the box to fire into the roof of the net 10mins before the interval to make it 1-0.
A tough half time team talk rallied the boys into taking a 3-0 lead 15 mins into the second half, a more attacking formation from the visitors opened the space inbetween the defence. Hamzah's 1st 2 league goals opened the gap between the sides. B.Dearnley slotted in his 5th goal of the season to make it 4-0. M.Kraus completed Idle's scoring following up on a parried shot from the goalkeeper to make it 5-0 and wrap up all 3pts. Another solid performance at the back for T.Hill how also cleared a shot off the line earnt himself his second MOM of the season.
Idle go 1pt behind league leaders Silsden and 4pts clear of 3rd place Oakworth.
Next week - Away to Calverley.

Bramley Phoenix -Vs- U14s - Away

01 Nov 2009
Kick-off 14:00

Won: nil - 9

The game was one of few that got played due to the terrible weather conditions, a change of venue due to a water-logged pitch was the only reason Idles trip to Bramley went ahead.
Bramley were an unknown quantity and with the a blustery wind the game was blown wide open! (excuse the bad pun!)
Captain Strudwick decided to play uphill and against the wind in the 1st half, hoping we defended well as a team and a back 4, then went on the attack in the second half with the elements on our side, and thats exactly what happened.
A nervous opening 20mins, as bramley had a few chances to score but brave challenges and a slice of good fortune kept the home side at bay. Running into the wind was proving a battle for the top 2, but quick thinking from B.Dearnley, a sharp turn, followed by a stab at the ball into the bottom corner set Idle on their way. 0-1.
Bramley continued to use the elements to create some chances but it brought them no joy, a corner whipped in low was met by an oncoming M.Kraus how took it on the volley.0-2
Idle went into the interval with all the hard work done, 35mins battling uphill and against the wind. H.Clarke and the back 4 got a deserved pat on the back.
Idle used the elements alot better then the opposition and it didnt take long for the score line to creep progressivly upwards. L.Wilton run through to find himself 1v1 with the GK, he calmly slotted into the goal, 0-3.
M.Hamzah was still looking for his 1st goal for the club and he made sure when two chances came his way firing 2 unstoppable rockets past the keeper, his feared shots from training finally being produced on a sunday! lets hope its a sign of things to come! 0-5
J.Strudwick got his tally of the mark for the season when the keeper kicked it directly to him, from 30yrd out he took it 1st time and looped it over the keeper into an empty net. 0-6
J.Whiteley continued his fine goal scoring form, playing in CM, he created himself a fine Hat-trick in a small space of time, much to his Dads disappointment as it meant he had to dig deeper into hes pocket to pay Whiteley's goal bonus!
Final 0-9
Man of the Match - M.Hamzah
A great performance from the lads, securing them a place in the 3rd round of the County Cup, proving they can play against the elements showing true grit and determination to get the job done, and a well deserved clean sheet for the back 4 and GK.

Training Wednesday, Make sure your there!

Oakworth Juniors -Vs- U14s - Away

18 Oct 2009
Kick-off 14:00

Won: 1 - 3

Idle were hosts to last seasons league Champions Oakworth. Idle were out to prove thier worth against the Champs, even more so with the absence of Hamzah, Cooper & Richards.
Idle have a thing for starting slow in the opening moments of games but not today they were first out of the blocks and had a handful of early chances coming over the top of the oppositions defence for strike partners Leon and Ben to work with.
The early pressure payed off as another through ball was latched onto by Ben Dearnley who calmly chipped the ball over the approaching keepers head to make it 1-0. (Looks like them new boots might do the trick!!!)
All credit to Oakworth who responded well by getting the ball down on the deck and passed the ball well keeping possession for spells but without really troubling the Idle goal. Thier possession payed off just before half time as Oakworths MOM No.9 showed slik skills on the edge of the box creating himself space to fire into the roof of the net.
Half time 1-1.
Idle found their early 1st half form in the second half and took control of the game, without much responce from Oakworth. A battling performance by Josh Whiteley filling in at CM, got his just rewards, finding space away from his marker hitting a 25 yard rocket on the run over the keeper to make it 2-1. Matthew Kraus made it 3-1 with a near identical goal as Whiteley, Kraus had run himself down the left wing past 2 defenders cut inside but was still a good 25 yards from goal, he didnt see any other options than to shoot which he did superbly smashing the ball over the keepers head to make it 3-1 and take all 3 pts from last seasons Champions.
Player of the Match was Debutant Leon Wilton who showed great strength and energy up front supporting Dearnley, he hassled the Oakworth defence all afternoon not giving them any time on the ball, created a hatful of chances, im sure the goals will follow in weeks to come.
It cant go unreported that Peter 'Berbatov' Hartley was booked late on, I'm sure his Dad will be pleased to know the £8 fine in the post!!!

SQUAD: Harley Clarke [GK], Ben Dearnley (1), Peter Hartley, Ash Hattan, Tom Hill, Matthew Kraus (1), Karl Mandreit, Patrick McKendrick, Kyle Pierce, Jack Strudwick [Cptn], James Swales, Josh Whiteley (1), Leon Wilton.

Silsden Juniors -Vs- U14s - Away

27 Sep 2009
Kick-off 14:00

Lost: 3 - 1

Idle suffered their 1st defeat of the season at home to close rivals Silsden.
Idle were without 2 players through injury, but this wasnt a worry, the starting 11 were slow out of the tracks and silsden didnt waste no time opening their account, it was all Silsden going into the break.
But idle showed their their grit with a positvie responce at the start of the second half with a few chances on the opposition goal, a change in formation for Idle to try find a goal, eventually found one, after an unfortunate slip of the gloves from the Silsden keeper was a gift for Matthew Kraus who scored his first goal in the Idle strip.
This gave Idle a new hope to find an equilser going into the last 10 minutes, Silsden held on wave after wave of Idle attack, which gave them the oppourtunity to catch Idle on the counter attack, score their 3rd and secure the 3pts.

SQUAD: Harley Clarke [GK], Ben Dearnley, Mohammed Hamzah, Peter Hartley, Ash Hattan, Tom Hill, Matthew Kraus (1), Karl Mandreit, Patrick McKendrick, Kyle Pierce, Jack Strudwick [Cptn], James Swales, Josh Whiteley.

Guiseley Juniors -Vs- U14s - Away

20 Sep 2009
Kick-off 14:00

Won: 4 - 5

Idle welcomed a huge Guiesley side to Hanson school, for the second game of the season, Idle looking to make it 2 wins from 2 and Guiesley looking for their 1st points on the board.
And things cetainly went the way of Guiesley in the 1st 10mins as they went 2-0 up, the 1st goal came from an absolute fluke, a over hit cross dropped into the top corner. The 2nd came from what everyone thought was offside bar the referee. Idle were a little shellshock and deservedly felt hard done by.
But the Reds didnt roll over and die, they were having alot of joy down the flanks in a gaping formation that played only 3 at the back, Idle had a goal disallowed for offside, Ben Dearnley bet the offside trap in the next attack, took it round the keeper and pulled one back, and on the stroke of half time Patrick Cooper poked one home to pull the tie back equal.
At Half-Time Idle were the team in charge and took the good play into the 2nd half, continued pressure on the opposing defence and Idle won a Penalty which was slotted in by stand in Captain Josh Whiteley, 3-2.
Idle continued their push and went 2 ahead thanks to Cooper, Guiesley pulled one back from a corner but never looked like taking the points away from idle, Cooper scored his 3rd and confirmed the points for a rampant Idle Juniors.
MOM - Tom Hill, solid at the back a huge presence, didnt let much past him, and set the goal scoring rolling with an assist for 1st goal.

SQUAD: Harley Clarke [GK], Patrick Cooper (3), Ben Dearnley (1), Mohammed Hamzah, Peter Hartley, Ash Hattan, Tom Hill, Matthew Kraus, Karl Mandreit, Patrick McKendrick, Kyle Pierce, Nathan Richards, Jack Strudwick, James Swales, Josh Whiteley (1) [Cptn].
