Hebden Bridge Saints -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

11 Apr 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Draw: 3 - 3

Todays game against Hebden Bridge.
We went to Hebden Bridge knowing it was going to be a very difficult game after being beaten in the semis for the Cup.
Also, compounding this we were struggling to get a team as many members were on holiday or unavailable.
However, despite this we set off by putting Hebden under pressure and had numerous attempts at goal but their competent goal keeper prevented us from scoring.
Hebden always looked dangerous on attack and proved this by getting the first goal. Despite this the team always looked like we could level it. There again another corner on the small pitch and a well taken header by Hebden gave them a 2-0 lead.
Idle’s heads still didn’t go down and they carried on fighting, which paid off by a ‘home goal’ by a Hebden defender. This was fair after we gave them 2 home goals a few weeks before.
The goal came just before half-time which boosted the girls confidence and we knew we had a fighting chance.
The second half began with Idle putting pressure on again trying to get the equalizer.
We defended well as we were prepared for the ‘corners’ this time which had let us down in the semis. A shot on goal from Idle and a great follow-up by Kathryn who slotted the ball in the back of the net made it 2 all.
Hebden were awarded a penalty for a ‘hand ball’ which in fact was a very unfair decision on the referee’s part as it was clearly a ‘ball to hand’. This gave Hebden the lead again with 10 minutes to go.
This riled the girls who then pushed forward trying to get an equalizer, putting Hebden under pressure again.
With Idle having more shots on goal, and a great follow up by Kathryn again we managed to equalize.
This was a great result for the last game of the season.
It could have easily been a win, if it wasn’t for some poor decisions by the referee.
This secures our 4th place in the League.
This shows what we could have achieved in the League and the Cup if things had gone our way.
Girl of the Match was awarded to Ellie Tate for her fantastic performance in defence.

U12 Girls -Vs- Burley Trojens Juniors Girls F - Home

27 Mar 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Won: 6 - nil

Home game against Burley Trojans.
1st Half was evenly matched with both sides having chances.
2nd Half we were playing downhill and took advantage of this. Natasha scored the first goal.
Pav, who had a great game and scored a hat-trick and also got the Girl of the Match.
Katie Webster also got a goal as did Kathryn.
This was a great performance by all the team after a disappointing result against Hebden in the semi-finals of the Cup.
Sorry, short report (which is normal for me) but I’m on holiday this week.

Hebden Bridge Saints -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

21 Mar 2010
Kick-off 14:00

Lost: 4 - 1

We were unlucky on Sunday against Hebden Bridge.
Their ‘home advantage’ ie. small pitch , really was an advantage to them!
Once again, we dominated the game and gave 100% effort but to no avail.
Final score Hebden 4 – Idle 1.
Chloe Broady scored our only goal and apologies to Chloe for last week’s mistake regarding the fact she actually scored a ‘hat trick’.
Megan Murgatroyd was awarded Player of the Match – deservedly so for her performance yesterday.

Rothwell Juniors -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

13 Mar 2010
Kick-off 12:30

Won: 1 - 3

Idle Juniors v Rothwell Juniors
Game was played on Astro turf which was a larger pitch than usual.
Idle set off well and soon put Rothwell under pressure even though it was Rothwell’s home advantage.
The team produced a very good disciplined performance this week against a very good team.
After substained pressure by Idle , Kathryn with a great run through and a well struck shot scored Idle’s first goal.
We always looked to be in control of the game, but needed more goals. A free kick given for Idle, just after the halfway line, gave Miyah the opportunity to power her shot towards goal, which Chloe Broady got her foot to and guided it into the back of the net.
At half-time Idle were 2-0 up and were full of confidence.
Rothwell managed to break Idle’s defence for the first time and scored their one and only goal.
Idle replied with a further goal from Chloe Broady to make it 3-1.
Natasha Light who we can always rely on, was the Girl of the Match.
This guarantees us the fourth place in the League with an outsiders chance of 3rd.

Horsforth St Margarets -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

06 Mar 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Lost: 5 - 1

Idle Juniors AFC v Horsforth St Margarets

First time this season that Idle were unable to turn out a full squad including reserves and unfortunately we were playing the top of the league. This made us play girls in positions unfamiliar to them.
Horsforth set off as we expected putting Idle under great pressure. Idle withstood for the first 10 minutes, but Horsforth scored a well taken goal giving them the lead. They kept the pressure on all the first half which gave them a 4-0 lead at half time.
Second half Idle was playing downhill and took advantage of this. Idle were all over Horsforth but could not put the ball in the back of their net – hitting the post numerous times but just not going in. It was one of those games where the opposition couldn’t do anything wrong in front of the goal.
Horsforth managed to score a fifth goal on the counter attack. The girls were trying as hard as they could but it just wasn’t going their way.
Three seconds from the end Chloe Broady finally broke the jinx and scored our one and only goal- a good set up from Katie Webster.(Katie was actually playing in defence but usually is our centre forward!).
All credit to Horsforth on a good performance. The difference between the teams was in front of goal. Horsforth managed to put all their chances away and we just couldn’t manage it on Saturday.
Once again every girl should be proud of their performance.
Broady was awarded Girl of the Match.
And finally a special mention of Pav’s brilliant header in the first half – unlucky not to score. The best header I’ve seen all season from any team. Well done!
The semi-finals of The Cup has been drawn and we have been drawn to play Hebden Bridge – away. This means it will be on Sunday 21st March. Can all girls please try and be available as if we can win this we will be in the final.
Training on Wednesday – same place same time.

Mapplewell Mavericks -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

27 Feb 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Won: 5 - 6

Idle Juniors vs Mapplewell Mavericks FC
Idle began the game well with determination and effort which paid off with a well taken goal from Katie Webster.
Idle increased this with a second goal and it looked as if it was going to be a walk over.
With Idles midfield and forward on the attack looking to increase the score this left the defense under pressure when Mapplewell attacked.
Ellie and Miyah were outnumbered on numerous occasions this led to Mapplewell scoring on the counter attack.
At half time the score was Idle 5 Katie Webster 3 goals Chloe Broady 1goal Katie Bennet t 1goal and Mapplewell Mavericks 2.
Just after half time Roger changed the team around by bringing on the substitutes, as we like to try and give everyone a game - after all they put the same effort and time in as every other player.
Mapplewell playing down hill and the new players entering the game Mapplewell made the best of this and put Idle under pressure but the team played well and responded with a well taken goal from Pav.
Mapplewell who were the better team in the second half scored another 3 goals which made the final score 6 - 5 to Idle.
Well done girls for a good win.
On a negative note girls who are substituted should make themselves available right to the end of the game. You may be needed if an injury accrued and also to support your fellow players who every week do the same for you.

Garforth Rangers -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

13 Feb 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Draw: 1 - 1

Garforth against Idle.
Garforth are in 2nd position in the League. After the thrashing we got last time we played them we wanted revenge.
The game started off slowly with both teams not playing to their full potential. This progressed and Idle looked more of a threat than Garforth did. However, due to a lapse of concentration Garforth managed to score the first goal. This seemed to wake both teams up and the determination and effort we saw last week was shown again.
Idle was close to equalizing before half-time but was unsuccessful.
Half-time Katie Bennett came on which gave Idle a little boost and also she put the ball in the back of Garforth’s net making it 1-1.
Garforth got a penalty but missed! We also missed a few open goals.
Both teams had chances of clinching it.
Afterwards Garforth’s Manager said that we were the better team!
Well done girls! A good performance again.
Girl of the Match Chloe Broadbent – as usual total commitment and performance.
I’m not writing anymore this week as I am on school holiday!?
Hard game this weekend against Hebden Bridge.
A special thanks to Garforth’s Manager for being so hospitable.

Guiseley JFC -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

06 Feb 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Won: 3 - 4

Game on Saturday Idle Juniors vs Garforth - Cup game.
Guiseley came with high expectations this set the scene for a cracker game with both teams wanting to win.
Within minutes Guiseley scored with a long shot, Idle responded with attack after attack and eventually Broady with a determined run from Midfield equalled the score.
Idle kept the pressure on with Guiseley counter attacking.
The girls giving 100% effort and the game being so tight and evenly matched Roger couldn’t make any substitutes knowing this would upset the format of game.
Idle increased the pressure on Guiseley and got a throw in – Katie Bennett’s long throw into the goal area , caused a panic and Guiseley’s defence under pressure caused an own goal giving Idle 2-1 up.

In the second half Guiseley were playing down hill and tried to take advantage of this but Idle held strong.
With a rare mistake in defence Guiseley’s centre forward got through on goal and made it 2-2.
Both teams had chances to win the game but Idle had the best chances.

At the final whistle the score was level and with extra time the game didn’t alter.
The commitment and determination put in by the players on the pitch was also shown by the substitutes.
After extra time the scores were still even. This left it for a penalty shootout- the 5 girls were picked.
The atmosphere and tension was high. Guiseley went first and scored.
Guiseley had taken 3 penalties and scored one goal.
We had taken two and missed. Then Katie Webster came on full of confidence and scored!
This really gave the team a boost. Guiseley missed another 2 after that.
Idle missed another one and it was left to Chloe Broady to win the game. She scored a fantastic final goal and this gave us the winning score.
There was no Girl of the Match award this week as everyone played outstanding.
Next round Semi-Finals.

U12 Girls -Vs- Hebden Bridge Saints JAFC - Home

24 Jan 2010
Kick-off 10:30

Lost: 1 - 2

Game against Hebden Bridge.
We knew it was going to be a tough one having being well beaten twice last year and Hebden being 3rd in the league with games on hand on the top two.
However, with the squad we have this year we knew that Hebden could be in for a shock.
The first half was well played by both teams with Idle just having the edge over Hebden but not being able to take advantage of this.
The commitment and effort justified this.
The second half saw Idle playing down hill and the sun on their side. Idle needed to take advantage of this and shoot from far out but a free kick near the half way line and a well struck shot gave Hebden the lead. Soon after Hebden produced another long shot hitting the goal post, which fell for the centre forward to slot home giving them a 2 goal lead.
Kathryn made an outstanding run from the half way and slotted home a goal making it 2-1. Idle increased the pressure in the last 15 minutes trying to get an equaliser but Hebden held out.
Pav won the Girl of the match trophy with a determined and committed match.
I must also point out an outstanding performance from Kathryn in midfield and Miyah in defence and a good performance from all the team. Well-done.
I do have one negative comment regarding girls who have been subs, need to be available at the touch line, just in case they need to go back on. In any game the same attitude shown on the pitch should be mirrored off the pitch and support given to the players that they have been replaced by.
We play them again next week at their ground so girls bring some warm clothes and let’s show support to our players on the pitch and off.

Huddersfield Town -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

28 Nov 2009
Kick-off 10:30

Draw: 4 - 4

This week’s game was against Huddersfield Town again – a League match this time.
The weather was horrendous the pitch was water logged so we had to play at the side of the pitch we played at last week. This meant it was even smaller than the week before, which gave Huddersfield the advantage.
Idle dominated the 1st half. Katie Bennett was outstanding with her physical presence and scored 2 great goals.
Katie Webster scored from a corner !!
Natasha carried on with her success from last week and scored another goal.
By half-time we were 4-1 up and looked like we had the game in the bag but Huddersfield proved us wrong.
Don’t know what their Manager said to them at half -time , but they came back on a different team and were all over us the second half. They put us under pressure and scored another 3 goals to even the score.
Chloe Green was outstanding in defence and got Girl of the Match.
Idle didn’t ‘up their game’ mainly because most of the girls were wet through and freezing and just couldn’t muster up the enthusiasm to retaliate.
Anyway girls we came away with a draw.

Huddersfield against Idle
This week’s CUP game against Huddersfield Town we knew it was going to be a close game with Huddersfield having the advantage of playing at home.
It was cold, foggy and wet just what we expected at Grange Moor but we didn’t let this get us down,
We knew the very small and slippery pitch would make it difficult for Idle to play any football without the ball going out of play every two minutes.

So Roger decided to try a new formation with 3 at the back 2 in midfield and one up front it seemed to do the job.
Idle took control of the game but with shot after shot hitting the goal keeper failed to score. This meant that the game was any bodies for the taking - Huddersfield were shooting as soon as they were in sight of goal.
Huddersfield’s centre forward hit the ball from far out hard and low, Megan had it covered but with the wet and slippery conditions couldn’t hold it, giving Huddersfield the lead this was against the run of play.
Straight after Kathryn evened the score with a great right foot shot, this seemed to wake Idle up and soon after Kathryn scored again making it 2-1 to Idle.
Idle dominated the game but couldn’t beat the keeper after 17 shots on goal I gave up counting but I knew with the small pitch and conditions we needed another goal to give us some breathing space.
On came Nats - within 5 minutes, Nats slotted the ball into the back of the net making it 3-1 to Idle (Well done Nats not a bad first goal).
Chance after chance Idle kept hitting the goal keeper (I don’t think they liked her).5 minutes from the end Huddersfield did another long shot and got a lucky rebound which fell to the centre forward who didn’t hit our goalkeeper but put it in the back of the net.
Idle won 3-2 but the score didn’t really reflect the game and we could have won with double figures.
Well done girls never a dull moment.
Megan was awarded the Girl of the match well done.
We play them again on Saturday same place, same time.
Make sure you wear something warm and waterproof!

Hemsworth Miners FC -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

14 Nov 2009
Kick-off 08:00

Won: 1 - 4

Idle was missing two midfield players and knew it was going to be a difficult game.
The girls rose to this challenge and won 4-1, it was difficult to pick a player of the match but Katie Webster with two good goals just did enough to win the trophy this week.
Starting with the goal keeper Megan who had an excellent game did some great saves and was unlucky not to keep a clean sheet.
Ellie played in defence and had a superb game - not many players can get past her and if they do she’s quick enough to always have another go at them. There is never a 3rd time.
Miyah played defence the first half with Ellie and then moved to midfield where she scored 2 goals. Miyah’s performance each week just gets better and better –well done.
Chloe Green came on at half time in defence was as solid as ever her tackling awareness and ability to read the game just fortified the defence.
Chloe (Broady) in midfield always gives 110%. Her natural talent and ability is an asset to the team.
Phoebe is a new player and is still learning but is improving every week. She proved this today with her performance and hard work.
Natasha came on at half time and is another player who is getting better week by week. She had a good game today and the work she put into it was excellent. She is reading the game a lot better now.
Pav is the youngest one in the team (and the smallest!) but makes up for this with her enthusiasm and effort. She had an excellent game today. Her awareness of the game and her natural ability showed today.
Katie Webster – Player of the Match. A great game. Her hunger for goal has made her the top goal scorer, with her continuing improvement each week.
Well Done Girls!
Let’s keep this run going.
Good result. A big thank you to Hemsworth for their hospitality.

Garforth Rangers -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

24 Oct 2009
Kick-off 10:30

Lost: 8 - 1

Idle Juniors vs Garfoth Rangers.
The match on Saturday was against a more experienced and stronger team than we have previously been playing. Due to illness Idle were lacking experience and size. (Some of these girls were huge and towered over some of our players!)
Because of their size I felt that some of our girls were intimidated by them and the wet weather didn’t help.
Lack of a permanent goal keeper also compounded the difficulty of the game. Hopefully, in the near future this will be resolved with a new player who is signing on.
Well done girls for battling to the end of the match and let’s give Garforth a surprise at their ground and put this defeat behind us and learn from this.

Burley Trojans -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

18 Oct 2009
Kick-off 11:00

Won: 1 - 5

Sunday game against Burley Trojan was a well deserved win; Idle began the game with a Positive attitude and dominated the first half.
With Burley under pressure from Idle superiority was just a matter of time before the first goal was scored.
Broady getting the first goal this began the collapse of Burley’s defence soon after Katy Webster made it two goals and Kathryn the Birthday girl followed with two more and was unlucky not to get a hat-trick hitting the goal post twice. Happy Birthday to Kathryn and Julian(Katie Webster’s Dad) The second half saw a change in the team with Natasha,Phoebe,Pav and new player Laura Rastrick coming on, still keeping the pressure on Burley Laura scored on her debut with Idle pushing forward trying to increase the score this left Idle open at the back for Burley to get a consolation goal.
Well done girls but don’t get complacent we have a hard game coming up this Saturday against Garforth. Also if anyone fancies going in goals and wants to guarantee a full game every week let Roger know.
If no one goes in goal we will have to make a Rota up.

Idle under 12 girls took on Rothwell Juniors at Home.
Idle dominated the first half going 2 up before half time a fumble by the goal keeper giving Idle the first goal and a well taken second goal by Pav.

Horsforth St Margarets -Vs- U12 Girls - Away

13 Sep 2009
Kick-off 10:30

Lost: 6 - 1

Idle girls first game, First half Idle went 1 up with the help of Phoebe in net. Katie Webster got our goal putting Idle in front . Horsforth got a goal just before half time making it 1-1.
Second half Idle seemed to run out of steam and Horsforth dominated the 2nd half giving them a 6-1 win. This was a big disappointment to Idle seeing as it was our first game.
We hope to improve on this in the future.

U12 Girls -Vs- Huddersfield Town - Home

91 200
Kick-off 10:30

Won: 2 - nil

The game this weekend was against Huddersfield Town . Idle brought a full squad to Blakehill school home pitch but had no advantage because it was our first game there . Despite this Idle won 2-0.
First half – Kathryn played in goals and did an outstanding job making it 1-0 to Idle at half time. Miyah and Katie played upfront and piled on the pressure.
Eventually this pressure paid off and Miyah scored the 1st goal with a shot from a very difficult angle.
Midfield players Chloe B and Pavendeep both gave 110 % . This was Pav’s first game and she had an excellent game throughout .
Defence as always proved solid with Ellie and Chloe G who defended brilliantly so preventing any goals being scored by Huddersfield .

2nd half- Kathryn played midfield but still managed to score the 2nd goal.
Beth played in goals and saved some good shots from Huddersfield .
Natasha came on for the 2nd half to play upfront and performed some good tackles , Phoebe came into midfield to give Chloe and Pav a break and to keep the pressure on Huddersfield.
The whole team gave 110% and deserved the win.
Special thanks to Lee for refereeing and to Roger for all his hard work and encouragement .
Thanks to my Dad for being linesman despite a few dodgy decisions !
