Wigton Moor United -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

02 May 2009
Kick-off 10:30

Lost: 2 - nil

Today we played against Wigton Moor United in the Cup Final at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

With Wigton already wrapping up the league we knew that todays game wasn't going to be easy. In football I believe you need a element of luck no matter how well you play, after all you need to score goals when the opportunity comes your way.
The Idle girls were ready and straight from the off the Wigton girls were forced back. Good passing from the midfield into the gaps behind the Wigton defence were making life difficult for the Wigton girls to settle. Three corners in a matter of minutes saw two golden opportunities but the luck just wasn't with Idle.
Idles start had certainly made those watching realise we are more than a kick and chase team and we can actually play good football too.
We deserved more from our fine start but with nothing to hang on to Wigton eventually got into their stride and started to use the width of the pitch to get at the Idle defence.
Idle had defended well but after Wigton had forced a corner the ball was only half cleared and the ball fell to a Wigton player who hit the ball into the net. 0 - 1 Wigton.
Idle didn't let this early set back put them off and once again put the pressure onto Wigton. A mighty battle was taking place in midfield and the Idle girls certainly didn't let the Wigton girls have time to play their flowing passing game.
Wigton got a second goal half way through the half, the ball didn't get cleared and with an empty goal to go for the Wigton attacker passed the ball into the net. 0 - 2 Wigton.
It's time like this when you either lay down and surrender and concede a bucket load or stand up and be counted. These Idle girls are made from strong stuff and were in no mood to throw the towel in just yet.
Half time Idle 0 - 2 Wigton.

The second half saw a more determined Idle but with a two goal cushion Wigton could leave four girls at the back which made it hard for our two forwards to use their pace. Our midfield pushed further up the field and tried to help the front two and chances came. Good goalkeeping from both teams meant no more goals were to follow.
Final score Idle 0 - 2 Wigton.

Congratulations to Howard and his Wigton girls for completing the double yet again.
We certainly will be doing our very best to close that gap next season.

Now to my girls.

Georgia, goalkeeper - after a nervous start in which the sun played a huge part in the mistake that lead to the Wigton second goal you grew in confidence and made five outstanding saves to give the side the chance to get back into the game.
Azaria, right back - a difficult job today, keeping out probably the two best wide players in the league. You tackled and battled and didn't let them pass.
Rosie M, left back - after picking up an injury on Thursday night it was difficult to expect you to keep up with the pace of the game but like Azaria you weren't about to let the team down and played your part.
Roisin, centre back - a nervous start but grew as the game went on and played your part.
Lauren, centre back - took charge at the back from the off and made a number of vital blocks just when Wigton looked to have got the upperhand. Played the ball out well from the back.
Amelia, right midfield - another one who picked up an injury on Thursday. Your form coming into todays game was possibly the best you have played this season, so with injury you were at a disadvantage but you wouldn't have known, excellent work.
Katie, left midfield - to say this is your first season playing what a brilliant season you've had. Played the first half and really got into the game.
Rosie D, centre midfield - if games were ever decided on effort you would win hands down. we needed a big game from you today and you didn't let me down.
Danny, centre midfield - passed well, tackled well, help out in defence and made it difficult for Wigton all game, a deserved girl of the game today.
Zoe, centre forward - worked tirelessly today without a just reward. The trouble is you've got a reputation now for being a strong runner so Wigton did their homework and put two players on you. Difficult for you today.
Rachel, centre forward - how good are you. Chased, harrassed and gave the Wigton back line nightmares. Ran Danny close for girl of the game.
Ella, sub - came on for Katie and got stuck in. Now turning into a very good right back.
Emma, sub - played your part when asked and didn't let me down.
Jodie, sub - another one of our girls who didn't know to much about football at the start of the season. Gave a good account of herself when asked to go on.
Imogen, sub(injured) - got injured half way through the season but is now ready to play again.

Just remember girls, today you were beaten by a team that is the best in our league. They only scored two goals which came about from our own mistakes. We are certainly improving and to say I'm proud of you all is an understatement.
Tournaments are now coming up so lets get back to what we do best, WIN!!!!!

Thanks to all parents for all effort you have put in this season.

U13 Girls' -Vs- Wigton Moor Athletic - Home

30 Apr 2009
Kick-off 18:30

Won: 5 - 1

For our last game of the season we welcome Wigton Moor Athletic to our home ground.

Both teams have finals this coming Saturday but you wouldn't have thought that the way both sides got stuck in.
Idle got the upperhand in midfield with Rosie and Danny pulling the strings. Amelia was having to mark the Wigton danger girl out wide but after 10 minutes it was the Wigton girl who was doing the marking, Amelia dominated for the rest of the game.
Idles first goal was a good move down the left, Zoe found time to get a shot away, the Wigton keeper saved well but couldn't hold onto the ball and Rosie D followed up to score. 1 - 0 Idle.
The second was a scrambled affair, Wigton failed to get the ball clear and Zoe pounced, 2 - 0 Idle.
Idles third was a great strike from Zoe, Danny and Katie doing well in midfield to get the ball to Zoe who shot across the keeper into the net. 3 - 0 Idle.
Idle were now getting chances to increase their lead but Wigton to there credit dug in and started to play themselves into the game.
Just before half time Idle got a forth, Rosie D crossed from the left and a cruel deflection saw the ball go in.
Half time Idle 4 - 0 Wigton.

The second half was a harder half with Wigton beginning to show the form that beat York the week before. It took some good defending to keep them at bay and with stand in keeper Rosie M to beat it was going to have to be a good effort for Wigton to score.
Half way through the second half, Wigton got their reward for some good pressure, the ball fell kindly to a Wigton player just in Idles area and the shot went into the top corner of the Idle net. 4 - 1 Idle
Idle responded well from conceding and got a fifth, Amelia got down the right wing and smashed the ball across the area, good pressure from Jodie made the Wigton defence panic and the ball deflected into the net.
Final score Idle 5 - 1 Wigton

Thanks to Wigton for a hard game and good luck in the Shield final against Huddersfield.

Thats the league fixtures finished now to the cup.
Lets go out with a bag and show the league champions Wigton Moor United that we want to finish as cup winners.

Well done girls, just enjoy the day and good luck.

U13 Girls' -Vs- Killinghall Nomads - Home

25 Apr 2009
Kick-off 12:30

Won: 6 - nil

Todays opponants are Killinghall Nomads.

With forth place secure and a cup final coming up it was time the girls started to play without any pressure and show how far they have come in their first season at 11 a-side.
Idles play through the team was creative and assured. The whole teams positive approach showed they could give anyone a run for there money.
The first goal came from Idles goal machine, Rachel. Her persistence and power creating a chance which she finished well. 1 - 0 Idle.
The next goal was from the Wimbledon book of football, route one. Roisin's long ball forward seemed to go on and on and only Zoe could keep up to the pace of the ball, the keeper came out but Zoe manage to get her head to the ball and score. 2 - 0 Idle.
Idles third came from a good run and shot from Rosie D, the keeper did well to stop the effort but was powerless to stop Zoe following up to score. 3 - 0 Idle.
Half Time Idle 3 - 0 Killinghall.

The second was much the same, with the wind on Idles backs it was even harder for the away side to get back into the game.
With Idle pressing it was only a matter of time before they scored again. Idles forth was a well taken shot by Lauren from the edge of the area. 4 - 0 Idle.
By now Idle were in total control and Rosie D got a much deserved goal, she ran at the away defence down the left and hit a left foot cross come shot towards the goal, a slight deflection saw the ball hit the roof on the net. 5 - 0 Idle.
Idles sixth and final goal came from Rachel, another great effort by Rosie D saw the ball spill from the keepers grasp and Rachel pounced to score. 6 - 0 Idle.
Final Score Idle 6 - 0 Killinghall Nomads

Thanks to Killinghall for putting up a stern challenge.

Well done girls, you carried on from the Nostell game and played some attractive flowing football. Our last league game on Thursday against Wigton Moor Athletic will give us a good test for the Cup Final next Saturday.

Nostell Miners Welfare -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

22 Apr 2009
Kick-off 18:30

Won: 1 - 12

Idle travelled to Nostell Miners for an evening kick off.

Todays game wasn't about how many goals were scored, it was how we were going to play considering the last two games were under par from the standard we've set.

Idle kicked off and soon started to flow forward with some nice interchanging of passes and solid tackling.
By half time Idle were seven goals up.
Scorers were Danny 3, Rachel 2 and Zoe 2.
The second half was again very pleasing to watch. The only blemish was a fine strike by Nostell half way through the half in between five goals from Idle.
Scorers in the second half were Danny, Rachel, Zoe, Amelia and Lauren (her first of the season).
Final score, Nostell 1 - 12 Idle.

Well done girls on a fine display, now let take this into saturdays game against Killinghall.

U13 Girls' -Vs- York City Ladies - Home

09 Apr 2009
Kick-off 18:30

Lost: 1 - 2

Today's visitors are York City Ladies.

From the kick off both side got stuck in and with little space in midfield it was going to be a battle just to get the ball forward.
Idle got the upper hand and with ten minutes gone Rachel did what she does best, three York defenders around her nowhere to go but still had the strength to push forward and strike the ball home.
Idle 1 - 0.
Chances were now starting to come for Idle and with better composure in front of goal the score should have been more.
Idle then let York back into the game, a cross from the right saw the ball missed by at least three Idle players (two should have headed the ball), and a York player forced the ball over the line. 1 - 1.

Half time 1 - 1.

The second half saw York trying to catch Idle on the break, with two fast forwards Idles defence had to be on their guard. Rosie M making some timely tackles.
With Idle looking the more likely to score it was York who took the lead. A throw in on the right into the Idle area saw a miss time challenge and a penalty ensued. Georgia got hers hands to the ball but the penalty was hit hard. 1 - 2 York.
Idle pushed forward trying to get the equaliser but with time running out and with no luck in front of goal the score finished Idle 1 - 2 York.

Well done to York, they played well and dug in deep towards the end.

Idle, a game we needed to win to push for third place.
It was a game that some of you didn't seem bothered about and if you had turned up with a positive attitude towards playing football rather than gossip about non football matters I'm sure the result would have been a more positive one.
Our next game is Goole at home and a chance to get back to playing as a team and enjoying ourselves.

Killinghall Nomads -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

04 Apr 2009
Kick-off 11:00

Won: nil - 2

Killinghall Nomads were todays opponants.

The pitch was nice and flat with a slight slope and the wind was strong.
Idle kicked off playing down the slope with the wind on their backs. It wasn't long before the girls pressured the Killinghall goal.
Killinghall are a strong unit and kept their shape very well. Idle struggled at times to break them down.
With some persistant play Idle managed to create some openings and on a less windy day the ball would have fallen more kindly and two or three goals would have followed. Idles best chance fell to Rachel but her shot was saved by the impressive home keeper.
With ten minutes of the first half remaining Rosie D got a sight on goal and hit a 25 yards thunderbolt into the net. 0 - 1 Idle.
Two more chances came Idles way but good defending kept the score to one goal. Half time Killinghall 0 - 1 Idle.

The second half was always going to be tougher, the wind seemed to increase and with no subs to put on the Idle girls all had to dig deep and work hard for one another. Solid defending from Lauren, Roisin, Rosie M and Ella made sure the Killinghall forwards were limited to half chances.
Idle always looked dangerous going forward so the best way to defend was to get the ball as far forward and pressure Killinghall in their own half.
Idle scored a second goal when Rosie D played Zoe through on goal and a calm finish made it 0 - 2 Idle.
With ten minutes to go Killinghall pushed forward and won a corner. The inswinging corner was saved well by Georgia who got good hands to the ball and pushed it wide.
Final score Killinghall Nomads 0 - 2 Idle juniors.

Thanks to Killinghall for a hard but fair game.

Today saw us arrive with only 11 girls available. A big effort was needed from all the girls if we were to keep the pressure on York for third place.
Special thanks to Paul Gartland and Chris Hester for helping with lifts.
Sick bags will be provided for any future journeys.

SQUAD: Amelia Andre, Rachel Clegg, Rosie Dawson (1) [Cptn], Roisin Gartland, Zoe Hester (1), Katie Hobson, Azaria King, Rosie McDonnell, Georgia Tate [GK], Lauren Tate, Ella Tattersfield.

Oakworth Juniors -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

15 Mar 2009
Kick-off 12:30

Won: 2 - 3

Today saw us travel to Oakworth Juniors to play them in the cup semi final.

We kicked off and played to our usual tempo. If we were to win today than an uptempo game was needed to keep the pressure firmly on Oakworths defence.
Danny and Rosie D in midfield were getting the better of thier markers and helping them were Amelia and Katie playing out wide.
The first chance of the game saw Rachel put through on goal and she didn't disappoint. 0 - 1 Idle.
From the restart Idle pressured again and this time Zoe was through but the keeper came out quickly to smother her shot. Again pressure was put on the Oakworth defence and with some better luck in front of goal Idle should have been 3 goals up.
Oakworth made most of their good fortune and with the ball bouncing in the Idle area the ball broke to an Oakworth player who shot into the Idle goal, Georgia got her hands to the ball but it still managed to cross the line. 1 - 1.
Half time Oakworth 1 - 1 Idle.

The team talk at half time was for the girls to carry on with the work rate and not to give the opposition any quality time on the ball.
Ten minutes in and Idle were showing the better of the two but chances were getting hard to come by with both defences tightening up. Rosie D found time to turn in the Oakworth area and shot hard and low into the net. 1 - 2 Idle.
By now Idle were looking good and in control but still needed the cushion of another goal. Some great play out of defence by Azaria and Rosie M saw the ball fall to Rosie D who threaded the ball through to Zoe who this time finished well. 1 - 3 Idle.
Oakworth realised that they needed to gamble and pushed more girls forward but good work by Roisin and Lauren at the heart of the Idle defence kept them out until some tired defending saw Oakworth get a second. 2 - 3 Idle.

The Idle girls saw the remaining minutes out and won their way through to yet another Cup Final.

Thanks to Steve the Oakworth manager for getting this fixture up and running and to his team for yet another hard game.

Thanks to all the parents for there vocal support throughout the game, at time it kept the girls going. Also thanks to Emma, Ella and Jodie who didn't get much game time today but I'm sure with the league games to come that will change.

Well done girls, what more can I say you deserve all the credit.

U13 Girls' -Vs- Huddersfield Town Ladies - Home

28 Feb 2009
Kick-off 12:30

Draw: 4 - 4

Today opponents are Huddersfield Town who are currently second in the league but haven't dropped a point so far this season.

Idle kicked off and straight away they pressured the ball in every area of the pitch. Huddersfield are a good footballing side who if given time on the ball will cause you lots of problems but the Idle girls were not in any mood to let this happen. Idle created two excellent oppotunities to get on the scoresheet but failed to convert them. With more pressure on the away defence it was only a matter of time before Idle got their reward, Danny pounce on the ball in the area and made no mistake with an cool finish. 1 - 0 Idle.
Idle got another 5 minutes later when a poor clearence from the Huddersfield keeper fell to Zoe who controlled the ball and from 20 yards out hit the back of the net. 2 - 0 Idle.
Idle seemed to relax after going 2 nil up and paid a heavy price for this when a mix up in defence let in the Huddersfield forward.
2 - 1 Idle.
Two minutes later Huddersfield were level, our failure to head the ball out of defence let in the away forward who ran on to the ball and score. 2 - 2
Just before half time Idle fell behind, once again Idle failed to challenge for the ball and paid for it by conceding again.
2 - 3 Huddersfield.
Half time Idle 2 - 3 Huddersfield.

After a few choice words at half time Idle were ready to make amends for their lack of concentration towards the latter stages of the first half.
The away side were put under pressure from the off and when Danny turned sharply in the area she was fouled. The resulting penalty was ruthlessly put away by Rosie D. 3 - 3.
More pressure followed and Idle thought they'd gone in front when Amelia took a quick free kick to Danny who fired home from 18 yards but the referee made them take it again due to him not being ready.
Idle pressured the ball and played some lovely football and with ten minutes left scored again. Rosie D brought the ball down with her knee and fired home. 4 - 3 Idle.
Huddersfield came back at Idle and with two minutes left got a lucky break, Georgia who was having a excellent game in goal failed to hold on to the ball and the lose ball was hit into the Idle goal.
Final score Idle Juniors 4 - 4 Huddersfield Town Ladies.

Thanks to Huddersfield for giving us a very hard game.

Well girls, well done. The first team to take points off Huddersfield this season. If we can produce this type of performance weekly we would be pushing the likes of Huddersfield and Wigton Moor United for the league.
We won the battle in midfield today with Rosie D and Danny playing some wonderful football. Defensively we were strong but could have stopped 3 of the goals by simply putting a head to the ball rather then trying to let the ball bounce.
The girl of the game was a close call, Lauren just got the nod over Danny.

Well done girls we deserved more than a draw but thats football.

SQUAD: Amelia Andre, Danny Camp (1), Rachel Clegg, Rosie Dawson (2), Jodie Dockerty [Cptn], Roisin Gartland, Zoe Hester (1), Katie Hobson, Rosie McDonald, Georgia Tate [GK], Lauren Tate, Ella Tattersfield, Emma Thompson.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

21 Feb 2009
Kick-off 10:00

Won: nil - 7

Today saw us away to Hemsworth for a 10.00am kick off.

Idle kicked off and once again chances were created but only a few were converted. Before the season finishes I'm sure that we will get the run of the green in front of goal and a bag full of goals will follow. Great goalkeeping and the woodwork also added to a fustrating day.
Rachel scored 3 but hit the post twice. Zoe scored once but hit the post twice and so on.
Danny scored straight from a corner and Amelia got a well deserved goal to complete the scoring.
Well done to the girls who played a full game for the first time this season.
Final score Hemsworth 0 - 7 Idle

Once again well done to Hemsworth for never giving up and playing with a fun attitude.

Well done Idle, it was great to see you bounce back from last weeks game.

See you all Wednesday at training 7 - 8 Phoenix Park (La Liga)

Oakworth Juniors -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

14 Feb 2009
Kick-off 12:30

Lost: 3 - 2

Today saw us away to Oakworth Juniors.
Due to the current weather todays game was played at Immanuel College.
Idle kicked off and were soon one up, a great through ball by Azaria to Rachel and a fine finish. 0 - 1 Idle.
Idle created more chances and due to dogged defending and fine goalkeeping the score remained 1- 0. Oakworth didn't just turn up to defend and were soon level when a mistimed tackle by Lauren saw Oakworth score from the resulting penalty. 1 - 1.

The second half started in the same way as the first and once again it was a through ball from Azaria which saw Rachel get her second goal.
1 - 2 Idle.
Oakworth hit back again the goal coming after the ball was lost by Georgia in Idles goal and and a simple tap in made it 2 - 2.
Oakworth shocked Idle by scoring again, this time Idle failed to clear a corner and after some drastic defending from Danny and Azaria on the goal line the ball still crossed the line.
Final score Oakworth 3 - 2 Idle.

Well done to Oakworth you play well.

Before the game Oakworth announced they only had 10 players so I thought it only fair I played 10 v 10. I still new that Idle should have got the victory but it wasn't to be.

Lets put this performance behind us and get back to winning ways next week.

Brighouse Juniors -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

31 Jan 2009
Kick-off 11:30

Won: nil - 6

Idle travelled to Brighouse for todays league game.

Idle kicked off and pressed forward from the off, it was great to see the girls passing the ball well.
The home keeper pulled off two excellent saves before Idle finally scored the opener. Amelia calmly passing the ball into an empty net after Rachel saw another good effort saved by the home keeper. 0 - 1 Idle.
Idles second came two minutes later this time Rachel followed up from another fine save from Zoe shot. 0 - 2 Idle.
All the Ide girls were playing with confidence and but for some excellent last minute tackles from the Brighouse number 4 and their brillient goalkeeper the score could have been double figures by half time.
Half time Brighouse 0 - 2 Idle.

The second half continued with Idle pressing forward. The home team weren't given anytime on the ball and were limited to very few chances. Idle scored a third when Rachel shot and yet again the keeper saved but Rachel was aware to follow up and score. 0 - 3 Idle.
Zoe scored next, she raced on to a through ball and shot into the top corner. 0 - 4 Idle.
Idles next goal got the loudest cheer. Rosie M (Macca) at left back ran and ran with the ball from the half way line, with the Brighouse defence in retreat she shot from the edge of the box and the ball flew passed the keeper. 0 - 5 Idle.
Rachel completed the scoring with her third and Idles sixth. The ball was bobbling around in the Brighouse area and Rachel prodded the ball home.
Final score Brighouse Juniors 0 - 6 Idle Juniors.

Thanks to Brighouse for putting up a good challenge.
Well done Idle, don't need to say much today except an all round brillient performence, specially to Macca for playing well and scoring her first goal and Danny and Rosie in midfield.

Wigton Moor United -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

17 Jan 2009
Kick-off 12:00

Lost: 5 - nil

Due to Wigtons pitch being waterlogged both managers agreed to play at Idles ground.

The pitch was a bit heavy under foot but playable.
From the kick off Wigton pushed Idle back. Idles strong defending and dogged midfield play was stopping Wigton from creating any clear chances. It was difficult for both sides to create any clear chances with the defenders for both sides in top form.
With five minutes of the first half remaining Idle conceded the first goal. A mix up at the near post allowed the Wigton forward to hit the ball into the net. 1 - 0 Wigton.
Idle tried to hold out until half time but Wigton managed to score again just before the whistle. Azaria was left isolated with the Wigton forward and although Azaria tried to block the shot the ball managed to find its way into the goal. 2 - 0 Wigton.
Half time Wigton 2 - 0 Idle

The second half started with Idle getting more into the game. A good chance fell to Rachel but good defending forced her to shoot wide. All the Idle girls were putting great effort into trying to get back into the game but Wigton are no pushovers and after doing the double last year at eleven a-side they weren't about to let a two goal lead slip.
The heavy pitch was getting to the Idle girls and half way through the second half Wigton got a third. Quick passing out wide and good movement created an opening and the ball was dispatched into the Idle goal. 3 - 0 Wigton.
Two more goal followed for Wigton, the first when Laurens clearance was charged down and the Wigton forward raced on to score and the fifth came from a ball over the top, Rosie M managed to get back to stop the first effort but the ball was passed across goal to a unmarked Wigton player who scored.
With seconds to go Rachel ran through on goal but once again pressure from the Wigton defenders forced her to pull her shot wide.
Final score Wigton Moor 5 - Idle Juniors.

Well done to the Wigton girls for an excellent game of football played in good spirit.
Idle girls don't let this result get you down too much. Wigton are an excellent footballing team and just like our first meeting they have had to play some of there best football in order to win.
York next week at home and a chance to get back to winning ways.

Well done girls a great team effort, I'm very proud of the hard work you all put in today.

U13 Girls' -Vs- Hemsworth Miners Welfare - Home

03 Jan 2009
Kick-off 12:30

Won: 7 - nil

Happy New Year to everyone.

Our first game back saw us welcome Hemsworth Miners Welfare for a league game we had to win to close the gap on the two teams above us.
Hemsworth are currently at the bottom of the league but if points were awarded for team spirit they would certainly be nearer the top.
Both Idle and Hemsworth hadn't played for five weeks so it was always going to hard for both teams to get going on this cold saturday afternoon.
Hemsworth kicked off but it was Idle who settled the better with chances falling for both Rachel and Zoe. Great goalkeeping from the away keeper kept the scoreline goalless.
Thirteen minutes in and the first goal came, Zoe raced on to a through ball and finished well to the keepers right. 1 - 0 Idle.
The second followed shortly afterwards, this time Rachel found space to run at the keeper and finished via the keepers right hand post.
2 - 0 Idle.
Chances were falling on a regular scale but dogged defending and good keeping denied Idle from increasing their lead. With five minutes left of the first half Zoe got a second and Idles third with a well taken shot into the roof of the net. 3 - 0 Idle.
Straight from the restart Idle pushed forward and Danny struck the ball home with an excellent finish. 4 - 0 Idle.
Half time Idle 4 - 0 Hemsworth.

The second half saw much of the same with Idle pushing forwards and creating chances to increase the lead. Megan scored Idles next goal, a powerful run down the left wind from Rosie M and a great cross was met by Megan at the back post. 5 - 0 Idle.
Rachel got her second after her first attempt was brilliently saved by the Hemsworth keeper but she followed up to score. 6 - 0 Idle.
With ten minute left Jadie came out of goal to get more involved and she soon got into the thick of it with some great footwork on the right to put Amelia through on goal but her shot came off the bar and was cleared. Rosie D finished the score with a cool finish, passing the ball into the net. 7 - 0 Idle.
Final score Idle 7 - 0 Hemworth Miners Welfare.

Well done to both teams for entertaining both sets of supporters on a very cold day.

U13 Girls' -Vs- Nostell Miners Welfare - Home

29 Nov 2008
Kick-off 12:30

Won: 12 - nil

Today we welcomed Nostell Miners Welfare to our home ground.

Nostell are a mixture of 12 and 13 years old and this will be there second season at 11 a-side.

Todays game was a joy to watch and straight from the off the pattern was set with Idle scoring within two minutes. Rachel finished a great move down the left. Danny (birthday girl) and Rosie M playing some great one/twos to get behind the Nostell defence and Rachel was on hand to steer the cross into the net.
The early goal settled Idle down and with some better finishing in front of goal Idle could have been into double figures by half time.
Further goals by Rosie D, Zoe, Megan and two more from Rachel made it 6 - 0 at half time.

The second half saw Idle pushing forward and it was difficult to see how Nostell were going to get back into the game with Idle playing so well in all positions. Jadie in goal had very little to do but when she was called upon she coped very well.
Six more goals were scored in the second half, Rachel with another two, two more from Zoe, Danny and the best of the bunch from Katie (her very first for the club).

Final score Idle Juniors 12 - 0 Nostell Miners Welfare.

I was very pleased with todays performance due to it being very cold and foggy. To expect anyone to put on such a fine display in such poor conditions was great to see.

Thanks to Nostell for putting up a brave contest.

Well done Idle it was a pleasure to see you enjoying yourselves and getting a well deserved result.

Lastly please remember that the Idle Christmas party in on Friday 5th December start 7.00pm at Thackley FC.

Brighouse Juniors -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

22 Nov 2008
Kick-off 12:00

Won: nil - 4

Todays opponants are Brighouse Juniors in the quarter final of the cup. Last week we played BJ at home but this week we travelled to their ground.
The conditions were sunny but bitterly cold, probably in the region of -1.

With Amelia and Jodie unable to attend we arrived with a squad of 15 players. Our new signing Jadie from Bolton Woods making her debut in goal. This enabled Georgia to play out of goals, something she has wanted to do for about two years.
A big thak you to Georgia for playing in goal and helping the team in that position.

The game kicked off with both sides trying to get the upperhand in midfield. The pitch was very small compered to some of the pitches we have played on so far, so it was vital that both sides tried to get the ball out wide as often as possible.
Chances for both teams came early but it was Brighouse who got the clearest chance. A good shot from the edge of the Idle box saw Jadie in action and she didn't dissapoint, a fine save to her left which she pushed away to safety.
Twenty minutes in and Rachel got Idle off the mark with a well taken goal. A ball threaded through the Brighouse defence by Danny saw Rachel race on to the ball and besides a few heavy challenges she managed to keep her feet and fire the ball passed the oncoming keeper. 0 - 1 Idle.
Idle were getting on top and with a bit more luck in front of goal the score could have been 3 or four. Zoe coming closest to doubling the Idle lead with an excellent run only for her shot to hit the post.
Half time, Brighouse Juniors 0 - 1 Idle Junoirs.

The second half saw Ella, Emma, Imogen and Georgia all starting and they soon got into the game. Strong tackling from Emma and some good link up play between Megan and the outstanding Rosie D saw Idle increase their lead. Rachel once again out running the Brighouse defence and finishing well. 0 - 2 Idle.
Brighouse were playing with a bit more purpose than last week but once again Roisin, Lauren and Rosie M were outstanding in defence and little or no chances were falling to the Brighouse attack.
Azaria and Katie for the second week running showed just how well they can play with some well timed tackles and some very good passing to the forwards.
With ten minutes left Rachel got a deserved third when she chased a hopeful ball over the Brighouse defence, the home keeper and defender got in a mix up and Rachel passed the ball into the empty net. 0 - 3 Idle.
By noe the game was won but Rosie was desperate to get onto the score sheet. With no where to go in midfield she pulled the ball back and found herself with clear run on goal. She finish with a powerful shot passed the keeper. 0 - 4 Idle.
Final score Brighouse Juniors 0 - 4 Idle Juniors.

Thanks to Brighouse for a hard game in freezing conditions. Both sides have got to take a lot of credit for putting on such a good display.

Well done girls yet another semi final to look forward to. We can play better but you are still able to put in a creditable display and get the result you deserved.

U13 Girls' -Vs- Brighouse Town - Home

15 Nov 2008
Kick-off 12:30

Won: 9 - nil

What a difference a week makes.
We welcome Brighouse Juniors to our home this saturday lunchtime. After last weeks poor performance it was a joy to watch as we started a game in a positive manner. Two minutes in Zoe pounced on a through ball and calmly shot passed the away keeper. 1 - 0 Idle.
Two minutes later Rachel scored with a well taken goal. 2 - 0 Idle.
Brighouse were missing a few players and soon were wondering what had hit them when Zoe got her second and Idles third. 3 - 0 Idle.
Idle were forcing the play and made Brighouse give the ball away with some good pressing of the ball, something which was missing from last weeks game.
Megan scored Idles forth with a HEADER. Good work from Danny down the left, a great cross and there was Megan to score with a header. 4 - 0 Idle.
Danny got on the score sheet to make it five with a fine finish with her left foot. 5 - 0 Idle.
The last of the first half goals came from a burst through the Brighouse defence from Rosie, her initial shot was saved but she followed up and finished well. 6 - 0 Idle.

Brighouse came out fighting in the second half but with Idles defence playing as a solid unit they couldn't find a way through.
Zoe completed her hattrick when she surge passed the away defence and scored with a neat finish. 7 - 0 Idle.
Rachel was next to score with a similar goal, her pace took her through the heart of the Brighouse defence and with the outside of her foot scored in the corner. 8 - 0 Idle.
Idles last goal came from Amelia, she was causing the Brighouse defence all sort of problems down the right wing and with one of these runs cut into the area and score from an acute angle. 9 - 0 Idle.

Final score Idle Juniors 9 - 0 Brighouse Juniors

Thanks to Brighouse who never stopped trying to get their momentum going.

Today saw Idle dominate from start to finish but next week we play Brighouse in the cup and you just know it won't be the same Brighouse that turns up for that game.
Georgia in goal touched the ball a total of 5 times today, all in the second half. Azaria ran her heart out and Katie who started the game for the first time played very well.

Girl of the game was Zoe.

Well done Idle.

Huddersfield Town -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

08 Nov 2008
Kick-off 10:30

Lost: 2 - nil

Today we travelled to Huddersfield to play Huddersfield Town.
After our last encounter against Huddersfield which we won 3-2 we knew todays game wasn't going to be a walk in the park.

Straight from the kick off the battle to be won was going to be in midfield. Idle started well but Huddersfield knew how to play on their own pitch. The ball on several occasions looked to be going out of play but the slope of the pitch kept it in. An attack down our left saw just this and Megan and Rosie M stopped, thinking the ball was going out for a dead kick but the home winger knew differently and somehow got to the ball. Her cross was deflected for a corner.
A very strong wind meant any crosses out wide weren't going to reach the area without someone helping the ball on. From the corner we didn't defend the cross well and the ball landed at the feet of the home forward. She found the bottom right hand corner of the net. 1 - 0 Huddersfield.
Idle pressed forward but the home defence had done their homework from our last encounter and doubled up on Rachel and Zoe. With puddle all over the playing area, our girls were finding the going tough and our passing just wasn't happening.
Huddersfield scored their second goal with some very nice passing down our right. Some neat passing finished off with a clinical shot into the net. 2 - 0 Huddersfield.
It just wasn't happening today for the Idle girls and with Georgia in good form in goal the score could have been worse.
Half time Huddersfield 2 - 0 Idle.

The second half saw a more positive Idle pushing forward but Huddersfield were determined not to let their two goal lead slip.
With ten minutes remaining Idles chance to get back in the game fell to Rachel, she lined up to shoot but the ball stopped in a puddle and all the pace was taken off the ball. The home keeper was clearly relieved for the ball to slowly roll into her hands. Both sides were very tired and the game finished with Huddersfield taken the points.
Final score Huddersfield 2 - 0 Idle.

Well done to Huddersfield. The first time we played they didn't realise how good a team Idle were. But after losing to us in the cup they certainly didn't take us for granted and played well in very awkward conditions.

Todays game saw us not playing to our strengths. We didn't get into them and we let them dictate the flow of the game. We need to get ready for the game before the whistle blows. Not having our minds on the game before kick off means by the time we realise that the games started we are almost a goal or two down. Against lesser opposition will probably mean we can dig ourselves out of this but to expect a side like Hudderfield to let us back into the game just isn't going to happen.
Training this week will see us practicing passing and controlling the ball, something which we forgot to to do today.

The girl of the game was Georgia in goal.

Goole Town -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

26 Oct 2008
Kick-off 11:30

Won: 2 - 6

Todays game saw us travel to Goole Town.

Goole kicked off and were soon put under pressure. Idle are usually slow starters but today we got up and running from the start.
Some quick passing between Danny and Rachel saw Zoe put through on goal. A neat finish by Zoe. 0 - 1 Idle.
Idle were camped in Goole half and soon made it two. A very similar goal to the first, this time it was Rosie to Zoe who than set up Rachel who finished well. 0 - 2 Idle.
The link up between midfield and attack was working well and with our back four pushing high up the field all the play was in our opponents half. Idles third came from neat work on the right by Zoe which resulted in a corner. Danny swung the ball in, Rosie tried to get on the end of it but the ball found its way back to Danny via Lauren, a good control and brillient finish. 0 - 3 Idle.
Chances were raining in on the Goole goal and a combination of good defending and good keeping kept the score down.
The forth goal came from a good challenge by Rosie M at left back, a good pass to Megan who flicked the ball inside to Katie. She passed to Zoe who finish with a sliced shot into the top corner. 0 - 4 Idle.
With Idle pressing forward it was a shock to see Goole pull a goal back just before half time, some half challenges saw the two Goole forwards work out a shooting chance and finished well. 1 - 4 Idle.
Half time Goole 1 - 4 Idle.

Idle kicked off the second half and the same pattern from the first half saw Idle pushing forward. The game was getting scrappy with some of the Idle girls trying a little to hard to score. A bit more composure in front of goal would have probably meant a hat full of goals today but credit to Goole they never gave in.
The next goal came from Goole, a number of poor tackles let in the Goole attacker who scored passed Georgia. 2 - 4 Idle.
Idle pushed forward again and got their just reward with a simple tap in by Rachel after good work by Lauren. 2 - 5 Idle.
Idle saved the best until last with Zoe getting her hatrick. She allowed the ball to settle before hitting an unstoppable shot from 25 yards. 2 - 6 Idle.
Final score Goole 2 - 6 Idle.

Thanks to Goole for a hard fought game. A lot of these girls were under 12 and at this age 1 year is a big difference.

Idle, a deserved result but you need to be more ruthless in front of goal. Instead of getting the ball forward for Rachel and Zoe to chase, a pass out wide to the wings would be the better option. Our corners need to be attacked better.
Danny was magnificent today but Megan just pipped her to the girl of the match.

See you all at training Wednesday.

U13 Girls' -Vs- Huddersfield Ladies - Home

18 Oct 2008
Kick-off 11:30

Won: 3 - 2

I was saying before the cup was drawn that as long as we don't get either Wigton Moor United or Huddersfield Town early in the draw we had a good chance of causing an upset in this years cup.

So with eleven teams in the league, 5 teams got byes. We where first out of the draw and Huddersfield were our opponants. I think next time I'll keep my mouth shut.

Huddersfield came second to Wigton Moor last year in both the league and cup so Idle were going to have to play to their strengths in order to get anything from this encounter.

Huddersfield kicked off and straight away passed the ball through gaps in the Idle midfield. They passed and moved with ease and certainly showed why they are a quality outfit. Idle dug in and got close to their opponants this caused Huddersfield to give the ball away.
Idle knew that by getting the ball forward quickly and playing a fast tempo they stood more chance, to sit back and soak up pressure was going to be trouble.
Chances came at both ends but it was Huddersfield who got the breakthrough, a great pass from the central midfield player turned our defenders and the centre forward passed the ball passed the home keeper. 0 - 1 Huddersfield.
Idle were unlucky to be a goal down but within 5 minutes their conceded another. A very similar situation saw the away forward racing through and scoring with a well taken shot. 0 - 2 Huddersfield.
Now anyone who knows this Idle team knows that they don't give up on anything. Idle pushed forward with some excellent forward play causing the away team to defend more or less on there own goal line. A number of corners just before half time could have resulted in goals but dogged defending and some good goalkeeping kept the score at 0 - 2.
Half time Idle 0 - 2 Huddersfield.

Idle kicked off and were determined to let their more experienced opponents know this game was far from over. Chance after chance came but Huddersfield dug in. By now Georgia in goal was a spectator.
Idles breakthrough came from a strong run down the right by Rachel, she tried to get a shot away but the ball fell to Zoe who hit the ball low and true into the left hand corner. Idle 1 - 2.
The Huddersfield defence were now physically shaken by the constant pressure they were under. Rachel and Zoe were back to their best. Forcing mistakes by their shear determination.
Idle got a lucky break for the equaliser. Zoe was put through but her shot was well saved by the keeper, Rachel followed up and hit the ball into the empty net. Idle 2 - 2.

Idles heads were up and were on the hunt for the winner. Huddersfield tried to get back into the game but Idle were in no mood to let this game slip from their grasp.
With new signng Azaria slotting in nicely to a already strong midfield it was her pass that saw Rachel one on one with the last defender. Both players were pushing but the ref let play go on and Rachel got the better of her opponent and finished with a superb finish. Idle 3 - 2.
Huddersfield had nothing to lose and pushed 4 forward to try and put the Idle defence under pressure. Lauren, Rosie M and Roisin who was outstanding stood tall. Nothing was going to get passed.
Final score Idle Juniors 3 - 2 Huddersfield Town.

A big thank you to Huddersfield for putting up a great fight in an excellent game of football.

Idle well done.
You listened at half time and worked as a team to lift your spirit and put on a quite brillient second half display. You showed by playing with your heads up and not letting a 2 goal deficit stop you from getting a deserved result.

One last thing. A big thank you to our subs today. Katie, Emma and Jodie. You didn't get as much game time today due to the nature of the game, but when you were asked to go on you didn't dissapoint and fitted in brilliently.
My biggest thanks you is to Ella, you didn't moan at not getting on at all today. Being left on the bench isn't any fun but your chance will come.

York City Ladies -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

12 Oct 2008
Kick-off 12:00

Draw: 2 - 2

Today saw Idle travel to York to play York City Ladies.

After arriving late due to me missing the correct turning we kicked off 20 minutes late.
York started well and put us on the back foot. A long ball over the top saw Georgia coming off her line but her clearance was charged down and the ball fell kindly to a York player who hit the ball into an empty net.3 minutes played York 1 - 0 Idle.
This sparked Idle into life and we soon had York defending deep. The football played was a joy to watch and with a bit more luck in front of goal the score twenty minutes in should have read 4 - 1 to Idle. In front of goal we need to be more ruthless and attack the ball. Idles equaliser came from a move down the right, Lauren ran the ball down the right and passed to Megan, her pass found Zoe who in turn passed the ball onto Rachel who shot high into the York goal. York 1 - 1 Idle.
Half time York 1 - 1 Idle.

The second half saw York come into the game more. It was a hard battle in the midfield but Rosie, Megan and Danny were playing well.
The chances at both end were not as frequent as the first half but it was Idle who scored next. With 7 minutes left a corner swung in from Rosie was half cleared and Danny poked the the ball home. York 1 - 2 Idle.
York threw everything at Idle and with time running out the referee awarded a strange free kick on the right for a foul. Upto this point the referee had let a lot of fouls go and to give this one was very out of charecter with the way he had refereed so far. The ball was hit towards the Idle area and Roisin tried to get a foot to the ball but tripped her opponent in stead. the challenge was a good yard outside the area but the referee gave a penalty. This enraged all the Idle players and supporters who clearly saw thst the ball and player were not in the area. He was in a very good position to see the challenge and so were most of the Idle supporters, but he was adament a penalty kick was to be awarded. York 2 - 2 Idle.
A cry of cheat was heard from the crowd watching but upto this point you wouldn't have labelled it a bad refereeing display. Within two minutes the referee had spoilt a good, hard fought honest game.
From the kick off Danny was shoved off the ball but no free kick was awarded.
Final score York 2 - 2 Idle.

After going 1 - 0 down Idle took the game to York and deservedly were the better side. On another day we should have put the game to bed and led at half time by 3 or 4 goals. What happened at the end with the awarding of a very debatable penalty wouldn't have had any bearings to the final score. The referee was a stand in and to be fair he tried to keep the game flowing where possible. I'll put it down to a human error on his part, after all I don't honestly think he intending to cheat.

Well done girls, you showed good charecter and played some great football.

Wigton did the double last year at 11 a-side so Idle new this wasn't going to be an easy game.

Idle started the game without Amelia. An injury to her arm meant her not fit to play. The club wishes her a quick recovery.
Straight from the off Wigton passed and moved and settled the better. Idle soon realised that their opponant were very comfortable at 11 a-side football. Idle showed great character in defence and midfield. They had to work very hard when they didn't have the ball which was for most of the first half. Wigton opener came ten minutes in when a mix up between Georgia and Lauren allowed the Wigton forward to poke the ball into an empty net. Next time Georgia come off your line quicker and be more demanding. Lauren, if Georgia doesn't come to clame the ball get rid and take control. Upto this point we had defended well.
0 - 1 Wigton.
The second came from a good move down the left, Wigtons most productive side, a great shot and excellent save from Georgia saw the ball fall to Roisin whose clearance hit the back of Megans head and loop into the net. 0 - 2 Wigton.
Half time 0 - 2 Wigton.
The second half saw Wigton pushing Idle back. We were missing three players today and it showed. Idle started to run out of steam and the effort they had put in containing Wigton was starting to show.
Wigton didn't have it all their own way and with a bit more luck Megan and Zoe could have brought the score level.
Midway through the second half Wigton scored a third. A good build up and firm finish. 0 - 3 Wigton.
Idle were tiring and a long ball over the Idle defence saw Lauren out muscled and the Wigton forward made no mistake. 0 - 4 Wigton.
The last goal came when a cross from the right wing wasn't cleared properly and Danny sliced the ball into the net. 0 - 5 Wigton.
Final Score Idle Juniors 0 - 5 Wigton Moor United

Well done to Wigton for showing us how the beautiful game can be played.
Idle, well only two goals were scored by Wigtons excellent play, the other could have all been defended better. We missed Amelia today and i'm sure come half way through the season we won't be far from the standard needed to complete in this league.

Wigton Moor Athletic -Vs- U13 Girls' - Away

27 Sep 2008
Kick-off 10:30

Won: 1 - 3

We travelled to Wigton Moor Athletic for our second game of the season.

The game started with Idle pushing forward and having some good pressure. The home defence were well organised and the goalkeeper was very assured in her handling.
Idle looked solid in all departments and it was a matter of time before the breakthrough happened.
Idles breakthrough came when the ball broke for Danny in the Wigton area, she shot across the keeper and and into the corner. 0 - 1 Idle
Idle kept the pressure on and got a deserved second. A trip in the Wigton area on Rachel resulted in a penalty. Rosie D firing the ball low into the net. 0 - 2 Idle.
Half Time 0 - 2 Idle.
Wigton started the second half a different side and pushed Idle back.
They passed the ball forward very quickly on a couple of occasions and were rewarded with a goal ten minutes in. Georgia stopped the initial shot with her foot but the Wigton attack followed up and scored. 1 - 2 Idle
This caused Idle into action and and with five minutes left, Rachel secured the points with a good finish.
Final Score Wigton Moor Athletic 1 - 3 Idle Juniors.

Well done girls.

13 Sep 2008
Kick-off 11:30

Won: 4 - nil

Well here we are at last, our first league game of the season at
11 a-side.
Idle welcomed Oakworth Juniors to our new home at Idle Cricket Club.
The sun was out to witness a well fought game between two sides new to 11 a-side.

The game started with both side competing well but it was Idle who settled first. The Oakworth keeper saving well to keep the score level.
he deadlock was broken by good move down the right which saw megan and Rosie D combine well to set up a chance for Rachel which she finished well. 1 - 0 Idle.
Idle continued to push forward but it was Oakworth who got the next good chance. A excellent move down the right saw their attacker shoot but Georgia saved well.
Idle scored soon after to double their lead, Zoe this time, in her new position of centre forward raced through the Oakworth defence to score. 2 - 0 Idle.
Half time 2 - 0 Idle.

The second half saw Idle having to defend as Oakworth tried to get back in the game. They were unlucky not to score when the ball struck the Idle upright.
Idle woke up and pushed forward. The Oakworth defence were now working hard to stop the Idle midfield and forwards from running wild.
Danny was next to score with a well taken shot from outside the area, with right foot. 3 - 0 Idle.
With the game now safe Idle started to show cofidence and passed well down the line.
The forth goal coming from a good run by Zoe down the right, she crossed well and with the Idle players trying to get on the end of it a Oakworth defender sliced the ball into the net. 4 - 0 Idle.
Final Score Idle 4 - 0 Oakworth.

Well Done to Oakworth for never giving up. They had chances in the game which on another day could have made the score a bit closer.

Georgia - Saved well when needed but needs to come off her line quicker. The sooner she realises that by narrowing the angles she gives her opponants less chance of scoring.
Ella - A big move from the u11's 7 a-side last year to u'13's 11 a-side this year. Already showing signs of improvement and in the small time on the field showed you're not afraid to get stuck in.
Rosie M - For a new player to come in and play as well as this shows what an excellent addition to the Idle squad you are. You've now set a standard to which the other girls can follow. Well Done.
Lauren - Got injured before the game so it wasn't surprising that 5 mins into the game you had to come off.
Rosie D - You had to go back into defence when Lauren went off and this wasn't the plan. But you did what you do best, got stuck in for the good of the team. Well done Rosie.
Amelia - Every team that we play alway have a good word for you. You worked hard today and once we settle down I'm sure the goals will start to flow.
Imogen - You look like you could play for the under 11's but you tackle and get stuck in like you play for the u15's. Unsure to know whats your best position yet but another great addition to the squad.
Roisin - Settled in well at centre back. Very realiable. Harder games to come but I know you'll be ready for them.
Rachel - Scored and was always a danger when running at the defence.
Just remember to use your left foot.
Megan - Great things happen when you play with confidence. When in the opponants half always have confidence to take you player on.
Danny - Played well in the middle and out left. Just a few times in the second half when you took a breather to far forward. Always try to get back in position. A great goal, well done.
Katie - Went on for Lauren earlier than I expected, but you play well for your first game. Tackled and passed the ball well when needed to.
Zoe - It took the first half for you to get used to your new role but second half you terrorised the Oakworth defence with your power and speed. Just remember to swap with Rachel now and again just to keep the defenders on their toes.
Emma - Went on midway into the first half and got stuck in. Fearless in the tackle and not scared to get your head on the ball.
Jodie - Another of our new recruits. Started sub but gone some game time in and made the most of it. Covered a lot of ground following the ball. For your first game you did very well.
