Rothwell Juniors -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
11 May 2008 Kick-off 15:00
Won: 2 - 3
|
|
After a long hard season, Idle had one last obstacle to get over, the Cup Final.
On a very hot day (25 ) Idle travelled to Pontefract to play Rothwell Juniors. A 3.00pm kick off meant the girls had been slowly cooking in the sun all day so playing football for a hour was the last thing they needed. Idle kicked off and it took both side a while to get into the game. Quite a lot of the play centred around the midfield. With 15 minutes gone Idle got their noses in front with a trade mark goal. A long throw in by Amelia into the Rothwell area saw the ball hit a defender and cross the goal line. 1 - 0 Idle. Chances were very hard to come by and with both defences in excellent form. Half Time 1 - 0 Idle
The second half saw Idle up the tempo and play some good forward play. The Rothwell keeper had to be on her guard to come off her line and stop both Megan and Rachel from adding to the score. Idle got a second when a break down the right wing by Danny saw the ball break to Rosie and she used her left foot to guide the ball home. 2 - 0 Idle. Rothwell didn't give up and with them needing to get back into the game Idle caught them short at the back and Rachel ran throw the defence and made it 3. 3 - 0 Idle. At 3 - 0 Idle thought the job was done but Rothwell had other ideas and pushed forward and took the game to Idle. A corner from the right saw the ball bounce in off a Rothwell player. 3 - 1 Idle. Rothwell came again and with 5 minutes left they got a second, another corner from the right was met sweetly by a Rothwell player, Rosie tried to block the effort but the ball hit her on the shoulder and sailed into the roof of the goal. 3 - 2 Idle. Rothwell looked determined to take the game to extra time but it was Idle who had the next clear chance. Megan weaved her way through the Rothwell defence and rounded the keeper, her left footed shot was slowly rolling towards goal but somehow a defender got back and kicked the ball off the line. With little time left Rothwell managed a last chance, good work down the right and a good cross was met at the far post by the Rothwell centre forward, the ball seemed destined to find the net but up stepped Georgia who somehow managed to turn the ball around the post, what a save. The final whistle went and both sets of players cheered. What a great game by two very good sides.
Even though Rothwell were the underdogs they certainly gave it a go and if we had played another 5 minutes they may have taken the game to extra time. Well done to Mick and his team for an excellent game.
Now what can I say about Idle, first the League Title and now the Cup. At the start of the season I knew we had a strong chance to contend both the league and cup but to go through the season with only losing 2 games, brilliant. The record stands at 23 games played, won 21, lost 2, goals scored 104, conceded 17. It goes to show girls that all the hard work you put in at training has really paid off. I,m very proud of you all, well done.
And lastly thanks to all the parents and relatives for their tremendous support throughout the season and on cup final day.

U12 Girls' -Vs- Westend Lions - Home
26 Apr 2008 Kick-off 11:30
Won: 3 - 1
|
|
League champions Idle welcomed Westend Lions to Apperley Bridge for their last league game.
Westend did Idle a huge favour mid week by by getting a well deserved draw against Idles nearest rivals Mapplewell. A result which clinched the league title for Idle.
Back to the game, Idle started well and created some good chances. The away keeper was in outstanding form and wasn't going to let Idle score easily. With 15 minutes gone Amelia was put through on the right, the keeper came out but the shot was to good and flew into the far corner. 1 - 0 Idle. Westend weren't going to let Idle have it their own way and soon got back on level terms. a determined run down the right wing was just kept in by the Lions forward and the resulting scramble saw the ball cross the home goal line. 1 - 1. Half time, 1 - 1.
The second half kicked off and the pattern of the game saw Idle pushing forward with the speedy Westend forward trying to catch Idle on the break. So far Westend were coping with the everthing Idle had to offer. Idle got the break through when a long throw by Amelia was met by Danny and her header found the net. 2 - 1 Idle. With time running out Idle secured victory with a fine strike from Roisin.3 - 1 Idle.
Final score Idle Juniors 3 - 1 Westend Lions.
Well done girls what a great season. Our first league title and who knows maybe a cup as well.
Thanks to Gary and the Westend girls for a great game.

Howden Clough -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
20 Apr 2008 Kick-off 11:00
Won: 1 - 6
|
|
Today Idle travelled to Batley to play Howden Clough.
Idle kicked off and immediately put Howden under pressure. The Howden keeper made 4 outstanding saves but Idle continued the pressure and knew if they continued to keep getting chances they would get their reward. Idles first goal was a good passing move from back to front which released Rachel and she calmly passed the ball passed the oncoming keeper. 0 - 1 Idle. Idle second followed soon after, a quick throw in to Zoe who then shot into a crowded area and the ball hit Rosie on her side and left the keeper stranded. 0 - 2 Idle. By now Idle were in full control and played some excellent controlling football. The third was a scrappy affair, the home keeper couldn't hold onto a shot by Danny and Megan followed up and three or four deflections later the ball crossed the line. 0 - 3 Idle. Howden never gave up and their lone forward kept Zoe and Lauren occupied with some strong running. Half time, 0 - 3 Idle.
The second half saw much of the same but Howden pushed a second forward up and with this they managed to create one or two good chances. Half throw the second half Zoe made it four, a corner from the right fell to her feet and she slotted the ball passed the helpless keeper. 0 - 4 Idle. Howden didn't give up and got a deserved goal themselves, some neat passing in front of the Idle goal ending with a fine shot that had Georgia scrambling to her right but the shot was too good and found the corner of the goal. 1 - 4 Idle. Idle pushed forward and fine work from Amelia saw the ball deflect into the Howden goal via a crowded area. 1 - 5 Idle. The scoring was completed by Rosie, she met a corner from the right and neatly beat the keeper with a well timed flick. 1 - 6 Idle. Final score, Howden Clough 1 - 6 Idle Juniors.
Well done girls just what was needed after last week. One more league game to go. Well done to Howden Clough for never giving up and making a good game of it. Girl of the match was Amelia for her never give in attitude.

Lost: 1 - 3

Idle welcomed Mapplewell to Apperley Bridge for a league encounter with a difference.
Mapplewell needed to win to keep the pressure on Idle at the top of the league. The game kicked off and it was soon apparent to all that Mapplewell were going to try anything and everything in order to get the result they needed. The Mapplewell centre forward certainly didn't need lessons in the use of foul and abusive language, she could have taught me a few I'd never heard before. This behaviour shouldn't be aloud anywhere never mind at a under 12's girls football match. The Idle girls were clearly unsettled by this and soon found themselves 1 - 0 down. A poor clearance was punished by a clean strike into the Idle net. 0 - 1 Mapplewell. Mapplewells second was a dubious decision given by ref, his oppinion was that Amelia gained control of the ball via her arm in the Idle goal area and awarded a penalty to Mapplewell. Georgia guessed the right way but was unable to stop the ball going in. 0 - 2 Mapplewell. Once again Idle had to come from 0 - 2 down and this time it proved a bridge to far. Idle pushed forward and after several corners and throw ins into the Mapplewell area they got a lifeline, Amelia forcing the ball over the goal line. 1 - 2 Mapplewell. Half time 1 - 2 Mapplewell. The second half saw Mapplewell play with all their girls behind the ball and force Idle into commiting players forward. By this time both sets of parents were giving it their all in encouraging the girls on. At half time the ref had spoken to the Mapplewell manager regarding the language of the player and it had an effect in the second half. She kept in down to swear words we all had heard before. The Mapplewell parent who chose to stand at the Idle side of the pitch away from his own crowd was stiring things up, he denied swearing when confronted by me, continually walked onto the field of play, shouted at me to shut up on several occasions when all I was doing was encouraging the girls on. He certainly knew what he was doing because everytime the ref looked over he was a picture of innocence, it was everybody else who were wrong. Anyway back to the game, the girls on both sides were obviously effected by the off the field activities and clear chances just weren't going to happen today for Idle. Idle must have had twenty corners and long throw ins into the Mapplewell area but strong defending kept the ball out of the net. With time running out Idle were caught on the break and the Mapplewell forward got a good shot away which Georgia had covered but a deflection took the ball away from her. 1 - 3 Mapplewell. Final score Idle 1 - 3 Mapplewell.
Both teams were capable of producing good football but sadly it isn't the football that was the talking point after the whistle blew. Mapplewells no 12 made a racist comment towards Amelia which left her in tears. It was immediately brought to the attentions of the Mapplewell team and their parents. Hopefully they will deal with this matter and stamp out this behaviour. As for the Mapplewell parent who shouted his mouth off the whole game, he had a game plan to disrupt the game with his disgusting behaviour and unfortunately it worked. Well done th the Mapplewell girls who did play their part in winning the game fairly. Idle, lets just say we'll learn from this and hopefully not be dragged down to this level again.

Prospect Juniors -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
06 Apr 2008 Kick-off 11:00
Won: 2 - 3
|
|
Today Idle travelled the short distance to play Prospect Juniors.
Idle started the day with three girls missing, Vanessa away at the coast, Rosie away at a Wedding and Lauren feeling under the weather. The girls available knew that a win today would mean victory against Mapplewell at home the following week would win them the title.
Idle kicked off playing up the slope and it was soon evident the girls were going to have to play well to get a result. Prospect looked very dangerous going forward with the leagues top scorer at the helm. Zoe and Megan were given a torrid time by the Prospect forward and a mix up in the Idle defence gifted her the first goal, she skipped passed both defenders and passed the ball into the goal. 1 - 0 Prospect. Idle kicked off and immediately gave the ball away, Prospect pushed forward and again loose play enabled the Prospect forward to weave throw the Idle players and calmly pass the ball passed Georgia in the Idle goal. 10 minutes gone 2 - 0 Prospect. It was clear that the girls were feeling a bit down and so a change was made with Roisin swapping positions with Megan. Idle weren't ready to give up and soon got back into the game, a long throw in by Amelia saw the ball forced over the line by Chelsea. 2 - 1 Prospect. Idle by now were fully aware of the job in hand and took the game to Prospect and got a lucky break when Zoe received the ball just in front of her own penalty area she hit the ball the full length of the pitch and ball bounce over the Prospect keeper into the goal. All square, 2 - 2. Half time Prospect 2 - 2 Idle.
The second half kicked off with Idle using the slope to keep the pressure on their opponents goal. Corners and long throw ins were causing the Prospect defence all sorts of problems. Prospect broke well but some timely tackles by Roisin on the Prospect Centre forward, made sure she wasn't going to score again. Rachel was finding it tough going because of a chest infection but when she was on the pitch she hussled the Prospect defence into conceding corners or throw ins. With ten minutes left Idle got their reward for some sustained pressure, the ball somehow fell to Danny in the Prospect area and she burried it into the roof of the net. 2 - 3 Idle. With time running out Prospect pushed forward but Idle held firm. Final score Prospect Juniors 2 - 3 Idle Juniors.
Once again it took Idle ten minutes to get into the game, but with a strong determination to win they dragged themselves back from defeat to beat a very good Prospect side.
Today anyone of the Idle girls could have got the Girl of the game but the Prospect side chose Megan, well done Megan. I would also like to mention Roisin for her brillient display against a very tricky opponent. Also thanks to Paul (Garty) Gartland for getting me out of a mess when once again I forgot the registration cards and he kindly went to my house and picked them up.

Batley Blaze -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
15 Mar 2008 Kick-off 13:00
Won: 2 - 4
|
|
Idle travelled to Batley Blaze today to play for a place in the Final of the Cup.
The pitch was very uneven and made it very difficult for either side to play a passing game.
Straight from the kick off Batley hit the ball long into the Idle area, they were probably hoping to pin the Idle team back into their own half but Idle soon showed why they are doing so well with some well organised defending and excellent goalkeeping from Georgia.
The first goal came from a raid down the left by Idle, Megan forcing the Batley defence to concede a corner. Megan took the corner and Roisin met the ball on the volley, 0 - 1 Idle.
Idle settled down well and kept Batley to long range efforts, but with Georgia in goal it was going to take an excellent strike to beat her. it was one of these strike that nearly found its way into the Idle top corner but Georgia somehow manage to get a hand to the ball and force it onto the post. Idle pushed forward in search of a second and they soon got their reward with a clean strike from Danny which left the Batley keeper no chance, 0 - 2 Idle.
By now Idle were getting very comfortable but Batley had other ideas and got back into the game with a great run down the right, the Batley winger got a brillient cross over and the centre forward met the ball well only to see the ball hit the crossbar but a quick follow up was poked into the Idle goal, 1 - 2 Idle.
By now the game was being played from end to end and the next score was going to be vital. Idle got the break when a long cross by Rosie saw the Batley keeper fumble the ball and Megan pounced on the loose ball and score with her left foot, 1 - 3 Idle.
Once again Idle looked in control but Batley came back with another goal, a scramble in the Idle defence saw the ball bounce to the Batley forward who placed the ball passed Georgia, 2 - 3 Idle.
Half time Batley 2 - 3 Idle.
The second half saw much of the same, Amelias long throw ins were causing Batley lots of problems clearing the ball.
With ten minutes to go the game was very tense but Zoe and Lauren in Idles defence stood tall to anything Batley had to throw at them. Idle got the last say when a scramble in the Batley goal area saw the ball fall to Rachel who made no mistake and thumped the ball passed the Batley keeper, 2 - 4 Idle
Final score Batley Blaze 2 - 4 Idle Juniors.
What a good game of football. Well done to Batley for showing a never give in attitude and also for being very gracious in defeat.
Idle started the game with Rachel, Georgia, Amelia and Rosie all feeling under the weather but with a final up for grabs they pulled up their sleeves and got stuck in. Girl of the game could have been any of the Idle girls today, they were all great. Georgia got the nod from the Batley girls for the saves she made. well done girls.

Idle welcomed Hemsworth to Apperley Bridge for todays League game.
Idle kicked off and soon got into a good rhythm, passing the ball from back to front with confidence and after several excellent saves from the Hemsworth keeper Idle got the breakthrough, Rachel pounced on a lose ball in the area and found the corner of the net. 1 - 0 Idle. Danny was next to score with a excellent shot which flew into the goal. 2 - 0 Idle. Idles 3rd came from a corner taken by Rosie which went into a crowded area and deflected into the net. 3 - 0 Idle. Just before half time Idle got a forth, Megan was through on goal and rounded the keeper well before passing the ball into the net. 4 - 0 Idle. Half time 4 - 0.
The second half saw much of the same with Idle keeping possession and not allowing Hemsworth the chance to get into the game. Credit to Hemsworth who didn't let their heads drop in what was a difficult game for them. Idle score again this time Danny making sure with a clean strike into the Hemsworth goal. 5 - 0 Idle. Megan scored next, a shot from Amelia was saved well by the keeper but the ball fell kindly to Megan who scored. 6 - 0 Idle. By now Idle were in total control and with Ten minutes to go Danny got her hat trick and Idles 7th. A flowing move down the right and a good pass inside from Roisin found Danny who calmly found the net. 7 - 0 Idle. Amelia was next to score, she shot across the area and even though the area was crowded the ball found its way into the goal. 8 - 0 Idle. Megan finished off the scoring and got her hat trick with a thumping drive. 9 - 0 Idle. Final score Idle 9 - 0 Hemsworth.
Well done girls an excellent performance.
Just a quick mention for Georgia in goal and Lauren and Zoe in defence. Yet another clean sheet, excellent.

Bolton Woods -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
02 Mar 2008 Kick-off 10:00
Won: nil - 3
|
|
Today we travelled the short distance to Bolton Woods. The wind was very strong and the pitch was very boggy in the middle.
Todays game wasn't going to be an easy three points and the conditions were only going to add to the excitement of a fixture which always makes a good game.
Idle won the toss and chose to play into the wind a tactic that has paid off in the last three games. Straight from the kick off BW pushed forward and put Idle under pressure, good defending from Zoe and Lauren and good goalkeeping from Georgia kept the score at 0-0. It was difficult for both sides to put any good passing together but to be fair to the girls on both sides they did a good job and kept trying. Idle created some very good chances and nearly scored when first Amelias shot was blocked and Danny followed with a great effort but it was saved by the BW keeper. BW best chance of the half came from an inswinging corner that forced a save from Georgia and Amelia ran the ball out of defence well. Roisin, Rosie, Amelia, Danny, Rachel and Megan all put in some well timed tackles to stop BW from creating any clear chances. Half time 0 -0.
Idle started the second half slow and nearly gifted BW the chance to take the lead, a great tackle by Lauren and an excellent challenge by Zoe halted BW and stopped them taking the lead. Ten minutes into the second half Rachel put Idle in front, great harressing by Vanessa and Megan up front caused BW to give the ball away and a quick pass from Rosie to Rachel who turned in the BW area and shot low into the corner, 0 - 1 Idle. Idle pushed forward and tried to get a second but it was BW who had the best chance, Lauren got the wrong side of the BW attacker who ran toward the Idle goal, she shot and on a less windy day the ball would have gone in but the ball caught the wind and went wide of the post, a lucky escape for Idle. With ten minutes left Idle got a second, Amelia crossed low from the right and with the BW defence scrambling back the ball struck a defender and went into net, 0 - 2 Idle. By now the game was up and Idle got a third, a great corner by Megan was met by Chelsea, 0 - 3 Idle.
Well done girls, another three points and yet another clean sheet. It was a difficult game today, Bolton Woods are a well organised side and play some good football, but you matched them well. Sorry to anyone who didn't get to play longer than they would of liked but I will try and get a better formula in place to enable more game time for everybody in future.

U12 Girls' -Vs- South Leeds City Girls - Home
23 Feb 2008 Kick-off 11:30
Won: 5 - nil
|
|
Today Idle welcomed South Leeds City to Apperley Bridge for a place in the Cup Semi Final.
South Leeds are unbeaten so far this season having won every game, scoring quite a few goals along the way.
The pitch was in good condition and the wind wasn't to breezy so everthing pointed to a good game. Idle kicked off with the breeze in their faces and soon got into a good rhythm and forced SL back into their own half. Idle forced several corners and throw ins and from an Amelia throw in Roisin met the ball on the half volley and the ball flew into the goal via the underside of the crossbar. 1 0 to Idle.
Idle didn't stop putting the SL defence under pressure and Rachel soon got on the score sheet. A corner swung in by Roisin was half cleared but Rachel hit the ball back on the volley and the ball hit the net. 2 - 0 Idle.
SL got into some good positions and with a bit of luck in front of goal they could have got back into the game. A combination of good keeping by Georgia and excellent defending by Zoe and Lauren kept Idles goal intact. Idles third goal was a milestone because it was the first goal scored with a header in the right goal. A long throw in by Amelia was met by Rosie and the ball sailed into the goal. Well done Rosie, I knew you would get one eventually. 3 - 0 Idle.
By now SL were finding it very hard to get into the game and every player for Idle was making it very difficult for them to get any good passing going. Idle scored again just before half time with a flowing move, Rosie, Amelia and Roisin all fighting for the ball in midfield and eventually Rachel got the ball out wide and took her marker on, she crossed well and Chelsea did what she does best, she swept the ball high into the SL goal. 4 - 0 Idle. Half time.
The second half started in the same way as the first with Idle pushing forward and causing problems in the SL defence. Megan came off the subs bench for Chelsea and soon made her presence felt. She took her marker on at every oppotunity and with a bit of good fortune she could of got on the score sheet. Idle secured victory when Rachel showed good strength to burst throw the SL defence and calmly slot the ball passed the oncoming goalkeeper. 5 - 0 Idle. Idle played the game out with some solid challenges to make sure they weren't going to concede any goals late on.
Final score Idle 5 - 0 South Leeds.
Well done girls what a great performance. you didn't give South Leeds the opportunity to get any steam up and constantly forced them back into their own half. you were solid at the back, Georgia saved well, Lauren showed a cool head when needed, Zoe tackled well and ran the ball out of defence with menace, Rosie broke up the play nicely and pushed us forward, Amelia caused problem with her long throw ins and no nonsense challenges, Roisins movement going forward is hard to track and her ability to use either foot makes defender think twice about jumping into a challenge, Rachels powerful running and never give in attitude is a joy to watch, Megan has the skill to beat any defender in the tightest of areas and Chelsea hold the ball up well and waits for support and she always follows up any shot at goal.
Also thanks to South Leeds for a great game of football. They certainly would be able to hold their own in the first division.

South Hiendley -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
03 Feb 2008 Kick-off 11:00
Won: nil - 4
|
|
Idle last played South Hiendley in the Shield cup final so Idle had to be at their best to get the result they needed to keep up the pace at the top of the division. The conditions were as usual, windy and cold but both teams adapted well and played some exciting football. Idle kicked off with the wind at their backs and soon had SH on the back foot. Some excellent work by the SH defence stopped Idle from getting any clean chances in front of goal. A good save fron the home keeper resulted in a corner for Idle. rosie drove the ball into the near post and some how the ball found its way into the net. None of the Idle girls got a touch so it must have come off a SH defender. 0 - 1 Idle. The first half was hard for SH to get forward because of the windy condotions but to their credit they manage a to have two good chances of getting shots away at the Idle goal. Georgia stood tall and dealt with them very well. Idle created chances but couldn't break down the stubburn SH defence. Half time. 0 - 1 Idle.
The second half saw Idle having to play deeper because of the wind and for long periods had to defend against a well organised SH side. Idle broke well whenever they could and soon scored a second to ease the pressure, good work from Megan down the right and a great cross found Rachel in space and she calmly passed the ball into the SH goal. 0 - 2 Idle. Idles third came from some determined work from Idle midfield, they didn't give SH time on the ball and it resulted in Roisin scoring with a well taken shot from just inside the area. 0 - 3 Idle. It was time for Rosie to make her mark and how well she did, she cut in from the left wing and drove her shot across the SH keeper and scored. 0 - 4 Idle.
Final score South Hiendley 0 - 4 Idle Juniors.
Well done girls, this was a hard game to win but you played well and yet another game without conceding a goal. The girl of the game for her terrific defending was Zoe. Well done girls.

U12 Girls' -Vs- Rothwell Juniors - Home
26 Jan 2008 Kick-off 11:30
Won: 4 - nil
|
|
Idle welcomed Rothwell Juniors to Apperley Bridge for this home league game.
In very windy conditions Rothwell kicked off with the wind in their favour and it was Idles intention to try and keep the ball on the ground as much as possible and make it difficult for their opponents to get into any kind of rhythm. The wind made it hard for both sides and credit must go to both sides for putting on a good game of football.
Idle started well and had chances to score but the Rothwell keeper was in good form and made some excellent saves to keep the score at 0 - 0. With thirteen minutes gone Idle got the opener with Rachel weaving her way through the Rothwell defence and shooting low into the far corner of the net. 1 - 0 Idle. Idle made two changes, Roisin and new signing Danny Camp coming on to ensure Idle didn't let Rothwell get back into the game. Half time 1 - 0 Idle.
The second half was slighly easier for Idle because of the strong wind at their backs and soon got the second goal, a long throw in by Amelia causing panic in the Rothwell defence and the away keeper was unlucky to see the ball hit her hand and drop into the goal. 2 - 0 Idle. Idle pressed forward and didn't give their opponents many oppotunities to score, Georgia in goal made sure her handling was safe and her concentration was always on the game. Idle by now were putting Rothwell under pressure with some great passing from back to front. Megan scored Idles third goal with a nice sidefoot into the Rothwell net. 3 - 0 Idle. With five minutes left Amelia scored Idles forth with a well taken shot from just inside the Rothwell half which went throw a crowded area into the goal. 4 - 0 Idle. Well done girls from both teams for putting on a very entertaining game in very windy conditions.

U12 Girls' -Vs- Batley Blaze - Home
12 Jan 2008 Kick-off 11:30
Won: 3 - 2
|
|
Well here we go again.
Idle kicked off the second half of the season against the only side to have beaten them last time around, Batley Blaze.
Batley kicked off and forced Idle back with some good passing between the midfield and forwards. Batley made the most of their pressure and scored when a long shot was saved by Georgia but she was unable to keep hold of the ball and the Batley forward tapped the ball over the line. Idle 0 - 1 Batley. Once again Batley put Idle under pressure and forced a corner. The ball was crossed into the area and with Georgia under pressure to catch the ball she could only palm the ball to a Batley player who scored with a tap in. Idle 0 - 2 Batley. Idle certainly didn't plan to be two goals down so early on in the game and knew that a vast improvement was needed. With ten minutes of the first half remaining, Magen and Vanessa were brought on and made an immediate impact. Magen made the Batley defenders very nervous with some excellent closing down and it soon paid off when the Batley defence were unable to get the ball clear and Rachel poked the ball into the corner of the Batley net. Idle 1 - 2 Batley. With time running out in the first half Idle pushed forward and again caused a mix up in the Batley defence, the ball somehow got caught up in the goalkeepers legs and Rachel forced the ball over the line. Half Time Idle 2 - 2 Batley.
After a strong half time talk, Idle looked a better side and caused their opponants a few problems. Rosie, Amelia, Rachel and Vanessa in midfield made an effort to get a challenge in wherever possible. Megan and Chelsea closed the Batley defence down well and Lauren and Zoe in defence got closer to the Batley forwards. With time runnig out and a draw looking more likely Idle got a corner on the right. The ball was hit low and hard into the Batley area and with the away keeper under pressure the ball struck her arm and fell into the net. Idle 3 - 2 Batley. Batley didn't give up and with one last chance they forced Georgia into action with a brave save, diving at the feet of the Batley centre forward and smoothered the ball. Final whistle Idle Juniors 3 - 2 Batley Blaze.
Well done to both teams for putting in the effort on a cold winters day. The first game back after the Christmas break was always going to be hard.

Mapplewell Mavericks -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
08 Dec 2007 Kick-off 10:30
Won: nil - 2
|
|
Today Idle travelled to Mapplewell Mavericks.
Idle knew that victory today would leave them top of the table, a victory for Mapplewell would put them top.
Idle kicked off and quickly got into a good attacking rhythm. Rachel and Chelsea causing a mix up in the home defence and Rachel poked the ball over the line. One minute gone and one nil to Idle. Mapplewell didn't lie down and showed some good passing across the pitch to set up a chance for themselves, but Lauren stood tall and defended well. Idle pushed forward at every opportunity and Roisin, Rosie and Rachel made sure that the home side couldn't get into any dangerous areas. Zoe continued from last week and didn't give the tricky Mapplewell forward time on the ball. Megan and Venessa came on and fitting into the speed of the game nicely. By now the rain was making conditions very difficult for the girls and the temperature was close to zero. Both sides deserved all the praise for keeping going and making a game of football so enjoyable to watch. Half time Mapplewell 0 - 1 Idle.
The second half saw Idle create quite a few chances to cement their lead but excellent blocking and goalkeeping from the home side kept them in the game. Idle knew they needed to score again to secure the win but it was Mapplewell who created the best chance with their quick passing creating a chance in front of goal only for their forward to hit the ball over the bar. Idle quickly pushed forward and with 6 minutes left the ball fell to Rosie who made no mistake and crashed the ball into the net. 0 - 2 Idle. Idle saw the game out with some neat and tidy football but credit to Mapplewell they never stopped trying and played their part in a tremendous game of football.
The player of the game was Lauren for her stalwart defending in difficult conditions.
Well done girls a deserved win.

Westend Lions -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
01 Dec 2007 Kick-off 10:00
Won: nil - 2
|
|
Todays game saw Idle travel to Huddersfield to play Westend Lions.
This was the first meeting between the two sides in any competition and it was Idle who were to finish victorious.
Rosie won the toss and decided to play up the slope. Their intentions were to withstand any early pressure and finish strongly. From the kick off Idle pressed forward and nearly scored on numerous occasions only to be stopped by excellent goalkeeping from the home side. Westend started to get into the game and created three clear chances but Georgia in goal stood tall and saved well each time. Has the game went on Idle started to take control and pushed the home team back. Zoe playing in defence made sure that there was to be no more clear chances for Westend and showed just how well she can play. The half finished 0 - 0.
The second half saw Idle adopt a much more possitive attitude towards closing their opponants down when not in possession of the ball. It was only a matter of time before Idle eventually found a way passed the home goal keeper. Idle put more pressure on the home defence and with time running out found the bit of luck they needed to score the opener. Rosie beat her marker and found the far corner with a well placed shot. 1 - 0 Idle. Rachel was running at the Westend defence at every opportunity and got her just reward with a goal five minutes from time. She ran at the defence and shot passed the oncoming keeper. 2 - 0 Idle.
Georgia - Well done, you kept us alive in the first half with three outstanding saves. Just remember to come off your line quickly everytime. Lauren - Some great tackling, great forward runs and good use of the ball under pressure. Remember to fall back far enough to cover behind you. Roisin - keep up the work rate. Your ability to use both feet and and run tirelessly is a joy to watch. Megan - It was difficult today with a big pitch to link up with midfield and attack but you did an excellent job. You caused their defence problems each time you ran at them. Chelsea - The same as Megan. Just remember to be alive all the time to any half chances that fall your way. Rosie - You drove forward at every opportunity and defended when needed. I thought you would tire to the end but showed me how determined you are to win. Vanessa - Your first competitive game this year. two or three more games and you'll be fitting into the grove nicely. Rachel - Your possitive running at the defence is excellent. I think you need to concentrate on your shooting and when you get that right you'll be very hard to stop. Zoe - Well what can I say. After todays performance you made defending a joy to watch. You tackled, passed and made sure you weren't going to be on a losing team today, well done. Amelia and Dominique to return. Who knows what we can achieve.

U12 Girls' -Vs- Howden Clough - Home
24 Nov 2007 Kick-off 11:30
Won: 3 - 2
|
|
Idle today entertained Howden Clough to Apperley Bridge.
The conditions for todays game was a mixture of freezing wind, rain and slippy under foot.
Both teams started off well and Howden had chances to cause Idle problems from some very good long throw ins. idle themselves caused Howden lots of problems and were unlucky not to take the lead on several occasions. Howden were defending well and their keeper was making some excellent saves. Idle were pressing forward but to Howdens credit made some good inroads towords the Idle goal. Half time 0 - 0.
The second half was more of the same and Rachel made the most of a long ball forward to squeeze the ball passed the oncoming keeper. 1 -0 Idle. At this time I thought the flood gates would open but it was a quick reply from Howden that stunned the home side. A long throw in caused panic in the Idle defence and three deflections later saw the ball go over the Idle goal line. When will we learn to attack the ball rather than hang a leg out and hope. 1 - 1. Idle haven't been in a situation where they've had to defend such a long throw in before and it clearly showed when yet another throw in caused panic again and two deflections later the same result. 1 - 2 Howden. To Idles credit their heads stayed focussed and put the Howden defence under constant pressure and with ten minutes to go they got their reward with an equaliser, the ball falling to Megan who force over the Howden goal line. 2 - 2. With time running out Idle kept the pressure on and with Howden defending from the front a draw looked likely but up stepped Amelia to smash the winner into the Howden goal. 3 - 2 Idle.
The conditions today were not ideal for football but both teams certainly put in great team efforts and Howden Clough nearly became the first team since Altofts from last season to take all three points at Idles home ground.
Idle must learn to attack the ball when its in flight and not be afraid to get some part of their body in the way. We caused our own problems today and with a little bit more fortune in front of goal we could have made it less nail biting towards the end.
Well done girls from both teams.

U12 Girls' -Vs- Wigton Moor - Home
17 Nov 2007 Kick-off 12:30
Won: 7 - nil
|
|
Idle entertained Wigton Moor today in the first round of the Cup.
Wigton have only lost once to date this season so we knew that this was not going to be an easy game. Idle kicked off and got into their stride with some strong running and excellent tackling. The first goal came just at the right time with Idle pressing for the opening. A long throw in saw a Wigton defender heading the ball into her own net. It was a great attempt by the Wigton player to head the ball away but she was unlucky to see the ball go in her goal. The second was a scrappy affair which saw the ball hit the bar and post before Roisin calmly passed the ball over the goal line. Idle had a very strong wind behind them and were trying to make this advantage count. Idle continued to press forward and scored a third when Rachel received the ball from Zoe, who with Lauren in defence made a formidable challenge for any team to beak down, ran at the Wigton defence and showed great pace and a cool head to shoot low to the keepers right and score. The Wigton keeper by this time was having to make several good saves to keep Idle from running away with the tie. Idles forth came just before half time when Rosie found space just outside the Wigton area and shot into the back of the net. Half time 4 - 0.
The second half saw Wigton play with the wind and soon had Idle defending, but Amelia was superb in the midfield beaking down any threat that Wigton tried to rally. Idle weathered the Wigton storm and soon found their earlier tempo to push the away side back. The fifth goal was another from Rachel who ran at the defence and found the corner with a well placed shot. Amelia and Roisin put more pressure on the away defence with some outstanding long throw ins which caused loads of problems and Rosie was unlucky not to add to the score with some delicate flick ons with her head, one attempt hitting the crossbar. The sixth goal saw Amelia score her first of the season with a well taken pass into the corner with the away keeper advancing. With time nearly up Megan came back onto the field for Chelsea who had caused problems all day for the Wigton defence, Megan found space to score with a low drive at the near post. Final score 7 - 0.
Well done to Wigton Moor who never stopped trying and nearly got a just reward at the end but for a great save from Greorgia.
Idle on this form you will be hard to beat, especially at home. Well done girls, a great game to watch.

Hemsworth MW -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
10 Nov 2007 Kick-off 11:00
Won: 1 - 5
|
|
Idle travelled to Hemsworth to play against a side who have only played 4 games before today. Idle started in their usual way, very slow but after ten minutes got into their stride and created chances. The home keeper made save after save before Chelsea found the net with some determined forward play. Megan made it two with a great strike which wouldn't have been saved by three goalkeepers all in the same goal. To Hemsworth credit they never stopped and got a deserved goal with a good strike which Georgia was unlucky to see squeeze through her hands. Half time 2 -1 to Idle.
The second half saw Idle push forward and soon Rosie score Idles third with a good shot to the keepers right. With Lauren,Dominique and Zoe in brilliant form in defence Idle pushed forward and scored a forth when Rachel sprinted clear and made no mistake shooting passed the oncoming keeper. With the game nearing the end, Roisin scored Idles fifthed with a good run down the left wing, she cut inside and shot with her left foot which took a slight deflection and crossed the goal line. With all the girls playing well the girl of the game could have been anyone but Roisin with her tireless running and great ability to use either foot made the biggest impression. Well done girls, a deserved win and well done to Hemsworth for never giving in and making a very good game in very windy conditions.

Bolton Woods -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
03 Nov 2007 Kick-off 11:30
Won: nil - 3
|
|
Having lost to Batley last time out Idle were looking to get back on winning ways. Bolton Woods are no push over and their start to the season has seen them take top spot in the league table so Idle had to be on good form to have any chance of taking the three points on offer.
The game kicked off with Idle having the better chances, Amelia had a great shot from distance just going over the bar. It was Amelia again whose long throw in to the Bolton back post which saw a Bolton defender handle the ball with both hands giving Idle the chance from the resulting spot kick. Roisin didn't panic and scored from the penalty kick. 1 - 0 Idle. Idle pressed on and scored a second when Zoe found space and with the outside of her right foot shot into the corner of the Bolton goal. 2 - 0 Idle. Idle finished the first half on top and were looking good for the lead.
The second half was a different story and Bolton showed some good team spirit to force Idle onto the back foot. Georgia in goal again proving how good she is with some excellent saves to keep Bolton out. With Bolton becoming fustrated with some very good defending from all of the Idle girls, Idle began to gain the upperhand and scored the best goal of the game with Megan and Rosie passing their way through the Bolton defence, Megan finishing the move with a clinicle finish. 3 - 0 Idle. The home side closed the game out with some fierce tackling and dogged defending.
Idle deserved their victory but Bolton showed why this league is going to be very hard to win.
Well done girls, a good way to bounce back from the dissapointment of losing to Batley.

Batley Blaze -Vs- U12 Girls' - Away
14 Oct 2007 Kick-off 12:30
Lost: 1 - nil
|
|
Well what can I say about todays game.
The team arrived at Batley already thinking that turning up was enough to get three points, how wrong could we have been. Batley proved to be a very good well organised side, well capable of causing us more than a few problems. 10 minutes in and Batley showed there intentions with some very good passing and movement and fierce tackling in all areas. Rosie found out first hand when a Batley midfielder caught her late in a tackle, and she had to retire early. Idle tried to get into the game and Amelia was unlucky with some good long shots which on another day may have gone in. Georgia in goal was outstanding and her handling, catching and kicking have improved considerably and she even dives for the ball now. Lauren had a brilliant game in defence and made sure that the Batley no.7, who is an excellent player, has few chances to score. Half time 0 - 0
The second half was an improvement and with the Batley keeper showing great awareness around her area, Idle could have had scored but for her interceptions. The only goal of the game came midway through the half when a Batley midfielder kicked the ball high over the Idle defence and Batleys no.7 was left to strike the ball home, 1 - 0 to Batley.
Hopefully the girls will learn not to take teams lightly and give their opponents the respect they deserve.
Next time girls i'm sure we will be ready to show Batley the real Idle and give them a better game than today.

The first round of the cup saw us travel to Cleckheaton to face a new team to the West Riding League. The game was always going to be hard for Cleckheaton and Idle soon showed this with some great passing and movement. Idle scored at will and were only denied more goals by some excellent goalkeeping from the Cleckheaton shot stopper. Credit to Cleckheaton for the effort all their girls put in. Idles second league game saw them play Rothwell Juniors away.
From the kick off Idle pushed forward and after forcing an early corner, Rosie crossed and the ball somehow found its way into the Rothwell goal via the Goalkeeper. The game was played in a very competitive manner with both sides going close to scoring. Both Goalkeepers saving well throughout. Just before half time Rosie found some space and fired a good shot at goal only for the Rothwell keeper to parry, Megan followed up the rebound and scored. The second half saw chances either way but good work from Roisin and Zoe kept Idles goal intact. Well done girls. we didn't play our usual attacking football but you showed that you are more than capable at grinding out a good result.

U12 Girls' -Vs- Prospect Juniors - Home
91 200 Kick-off 08:00
Won: 4 - nil
|
|
Idle started the season off in great style by winning against a Prospect side which will be challenging them for silverware come the end of the season. With a few minute gone Prospect showed how dangerous they are and created two chances to score. Good challanges and goalkeeping kept them out and from then Idle never took a backwards step. A scramble in the Prospect area saw the ball fall to Chelsea and she passed the ball into a crowded net, 1 - 0. New signing Rachel came off the subs bench and made an immediate impact and a powerful run forward and pass to Megan saw her slot the ball home, 2 - 0. Once again Rachel made a strong run forward and with the Prospect Keeper advancing towards her she shot and scored, 3 - 0. Half time. The second half saw some good long range shots from Prospects but with Georgia in excellent form in goal she showed great handling everytime. Idle kept the tempo up and never let Prospect into the game and with ten minutes remaining the ball fell to Roisin who hit a lft footed half volley which looked a certain goal but the Prospect keeper parried and Chelsea did what she does best, followed the shot in and calmly slotted the ball home, 4 - 0. Well done Idle, a great team performance.
