Under 7's -Vs- Shipley B - Home
13 Apr 2003 Kick-off 10:00
Won: 4 - 2
|
|
Idle went into the match looking to beat Shipley B by another convincing score (away 0 - 11) but the boys will soon learn that Football is a funny game! Shipley are a much improved side and went 1 nil up early on and defended resolutely for long periods in the first half until George pulled back an equaliser drilling the ball into the bottom left.Half Time was looming and we needed to add some strength in the middle of the park so yet again Karl was sacrificed and Ashleigh came on and was soon getting in the all important challenges and making the odd forage up front. The Ref blew the whistle for half time and the boys gathered around for the now accustomed Jaffa Cakes! But after getting a tongue lashing from Simon they must have thought it wise not to ask for them and went down the other end and got themselves psyched up for the second half by arms around shoulders and some instruction from the Captain (Jack Stockdill). Idle were now beginning to show their strength and were determined to win the ball James controlled the ball with some great skill direct from a high kick from the Shipley Keeper and drilled the ball into the top corner 2-1. Shipley made the odd entry into Idle territory only to come to a sudden end by some good defending by Harrison, who had come on at half time for Chopper, and Struddy who popped up again with a well taken goal 3-1.Shipley won a corner and lack of discipline from some of the Idle boys ended in the ball sneaking into the goal, Jack Barrett (Keeper) was not happy and must have been hoarse with shouting. It must have worked because with some great passing the ball ended up at Patch's feet and off he went in the now familiar arching run and raced off down the left wing with pace leaving Shipley Defenders for dead and crossed the ball with perfection for James to bag his second with some deadly finishing, Game over the Ref blew for time and it was no surprise that he awarded the Man Of The Match Trophy to the Captain - Jack Stockdill - Two weeks on the trot now. The boys done well and a third place finish in their first season is now looking pretty good.

Won: 1 - 3

The week after the victory at Gomersall we had a free weekend so a friendly against Bradford Tigers was arranged, a team we beat pre season by a convincing score line! But history has no meaning in football, The lad's went down 2-0 and walked off gutted! Our next league game was against Sutton, The furthest we had to travel so far. A Park similar to our own a little muddy and covered with leaves for this time of year. The first half finished 0-0 which was a good score-line considering it was the first time the team was down to the bare bones (no Subs) George opened the scoring in the second half only for Sutton to equalize, a great save by Ben denied Sutton taking the lead, All the hard work by the coaches appeared to have some fruition! Another goal by Jack Strudwick and another by George gave all three points to Idle. The Man Of The Match Award went to Ben which was well deserved.

Second home game of the season the weather has not been good but the boy's are confident after the result the previous week, A 6-0 victory at WINDY Queensbury! Jack Strudwick opens the scoring quickly followed by George and then James. At Half Time the score is 7-0------- The rest of the match report is from Choppers dad's THEY'RE ONLY SIX -- Jack Strudwick gets a double Hat Trick, James Swales gets 3, George Clough bags 4 - Some great passing and some great tackling, they ran their socks off on heavy ground after the sky poured a month's worth of rain on the pitch the day before.Gomersall had one break, their striker got loose and was heading at speed towards the Idle goal there was only one problem for him - Harrison 'The Wall' Greasley------- BOOOOOOFFF---- Our hearts sank, But he picked himself up trying to figure which Planet he had landed, the ball was back in their area and then in back of the net for goal number 11 - The striker was O.K and carried on for the rest of the game! Our Goalkeeper - Ben Heggs touched the ball only once- He should have brought his Homework . The Man Of The Match for the game was George !! I think it must have cost his Dad a few quid !!! Well deserved.

Queensbury B -Vs- Under 7's - Away
06 Oct 2002 Kick-off 10:30
Won: nil - 6

We all met at Queensbury's ground and no one was missing ! which was a suprise because surely it's on top of the world where it snows in summer !! Anyway they have got a good setup and while our boys were running around trying to keep warm, the opposition were nice and warm inside. The boys got off to a good start and the pre match warm up must have fired them up as they quickly got off the mark with a goal from Ashleigh, captain for the day, quickly followed by a first half Hat Trick for James.Idle were awarded a penalty and up stepped the captain but Ash failed to double his goal tally - Half Time 4-0 to the Idle Boys.Changes for the second half saw Karl and Jack Barrett replace Patrick and George.Jack Barret for the first time was getting some good tackles in and knocking the ball forward! Karl scored number 5 with a first time volley into the top right and James made it 6 with his fourth of the game and thats how it finished, a 6-0 win for Idle.

With no League game the week after Shipley B the boys were invited to Silsden for a Friendly, We need all the experience we can get! And arrived with confidence.Changes from the first game were that Ashleigh and Patrick were Substitutes and Chopper was Jetting off to Greece.Idle led at Half Time 1-2 courtesy of an Own Goal and one from Jack Strudwick.Ashleigh and Patrick came on in the second half for Karl and George (Captain) Silsden Levelled 2-2, James regained the lead and then the team Manager made what proved to be an inspired substitution ! Karl back on for Jack Barrett! Karl scores! 4-2 and game over. The Man Of The Match Trophy goes to Harrison for a good defensive performance. After a friendly Penalty Shoot Out the boys go and get their complimentary Hot Dogs, Great Hospitality! Eldwick- The first Home game of season and the boys are confident after winning their first two competitive games of the season, is the Manager ? James and Harrison are on the Subs Bench ( Chopper is still in greece) Idle go 1-0 up through Jack Strudwick and Soon after Eldwick equalise -Half Time 1-1 - James and Harrison come on for Jack Strudwick and George. In the 2nd half Eldwick take the lead and Idle are on the back foot.Idle start to do what they do best and that is play Football ! James unleashes a fierce shot against the left hand post and the rebound does'nt go idle's way, not long to go and the ball falls to the feet of James who drives the ball into the top corner of the net - 2-2 a point well deserved - NO! the Eldwick Keeper produces what could be the save of the season and palms the ball onto the angle of the goals, WHAT A SUPERB SAVE! Idle lose 1-2.The Man Of The Match Trophy goes to goal scorer Jack Strudwick.
MANAGER - TOO CONFIDENT / MUST LEARN.

For the lads, this day was a long time coming, the boys had been together since May 2001 (15 months) training in some awfull conditions but still they turned up and kicked the ball as if they were wearing Hexagonal shaped football boots ! Kick-Off was 10am at Shipleys Ground, a beautifull flat surface unlike The Rec. James Swales had burst into his Mum&Dads bedroom at 5am asking if it was time to go, he was fully dressed - in his kit, boots and all!! We arrive at Shipley's ground, it's a beautifull morning and they're raring to go.The formidable striking force of Jack Strudwick and James Swales, Idles answer to Blackburns SaS of the nineties, Shearer and Sutton, get off to a good start, they both bag a Hat Trick in the first half with another coming from Patrick Cooper.Half Time came and the boys were winning 7-0.James,Jack and Harrison were substituted for Karl, Jack Barrett and Jack Redmond to go easy on the opposition, after all 'They're only Six' - Karl bagged 2 - Patch took his tally to two and the Captain for the day George scored 1.The Ref blows for full time and it finished 0-11, the parents are over the moon and the kids gathered round for the Man of The Match Trophy to be awarded, it goes to Ashleigh - What! no goal scored! but a great performance in the middle of the park getting in some crunching tackles and passing the ball to the forward players - Well Deserved.
Thanks to Choppers dad for the Match Report extracted from his Unofficial Fanzine 'THEY'RE ONLY SIX!'
